Rugged Ridge Mesh Grille Insert

Bought the Rugged Ridge Mesh Grille Insert from Amazon - $45 - and installed in about 30/40 minutes. I like how it looks and the price compared to all the others I was considering. Installation was not difficult. Just make sure mesh is line up correctly before tightening the support rails down. Nuts for the upper attachment should be on top (i.e. you can easily see them when you open the hood) or else the upper part of the grille will not fit when you reattach it.

We did the same mod to both our jeeps, with one modification. We added some window screening behind the insert to keep the smaller bugs out of the coils, in case you want to try it.

We love the insert. Yours looks good, too!

Can you show pictures of how the nuts for the upper attachment look? I installed this and getting my grille back on was a tight squeeze and now the headlights don't look like they're flush with the grille. Thanks!

I am thinking about getting one of these, but is the mesh a flat piece, or is there a 3D bulge for each gill slot like some of the other mesh addons?

First picture shows the screw on top. This is the left side of the grille. It looks the same on the right side.

In this picture you can see a little cut where you have to notch out for the support bar to fit. Just use an exacto knife or razor knife. Takes two minutes.

Yes, it is formed to fit the slots. Not sure how well you can see it in this picture. It might be better in the first picture above...

U-Tube has several clips on how to and using different materials to make your own. The gutter guards are metal and there are some plastic guards also. My concern is will the plastic stand up to the weather and years? The backing above makes me wonder if that is a good idea as far as longevity is concern. Seems the home made run in mats about even for the over the counter... and that's also saving the crafting time needed.
I'm watching this article as I want to do the same with mine.

The reason why we chose the Rugged Ridge insert over the homemade was having those support bars to keep it in place. We had read a lot about the glues and epoxies coming loose after a time, on the homemade guards. Just wanted something we could screw in and be done.

We have them on both our jeeps. I left mine black, but I painted Mike's blue to match his SpiderWebShade.

This is the one I was talking about:

http://www.amazon.com/Rugged-Ridge-1...dge+grill+mesh

The one you linked is seven separate inserts that fit in from the outside of each channel in the grill and leave you with an outline of the insert visible on the outside.

We didn't care for that look, so we went with the one in the first link.

The RR mesh is the best of both worlds, low cost and OEM look. Not even worth it for a DIY, unless you need to save $10 and must have that DIY look and you need to feel good about it. Just do the RR once and forget about it.

Just ordered it today from Amazon along with Mopar door sills and a short antenna.

These will be my first mods. I have a feeling these won't be the last.

Amazon's compatibility checker !

When I ordered Mike's back in 2012 it said it wouldn't fit a 2013. Bought it anyway, and it fit just fine.

He ordered the same thing for me this Christmas and again, it fit just fine.

I don't know if it's amazon's job to update the list or the vendor's. It's just a cluster. Don't believe what it says if it says it doesn't work. Verify here first and you'll be set.

It's easy to make the hood lock fit. Just have to have a pair of tin snips or HEAVY gauge wire clippers.

Sorry, my bad!

No, you can't use them together, because the one I linked bows OUT into the grill openings. The one you linked pushes all the way back INSIDE the grill openings.

Sorry I misunderstood your original question.

I'd think the black as it has paint on it and if you get a little scratch the black won't show as much as the bright silver stainless steel
But than again I'm not a painter

Mike's was black. I sprayed it with a blue rustoleum that matches his SpiderWebShade.

I just washed it really good, then wiped it lightly with some fine sandpaper. No primer, nothing else.

This is what it looks like now, about a year later. Nothing has been done to touch it up, just regular washings.

Just ordered one of these in Black...instead of doing the DIY 'gutter guard' method.

May try to 'Dip' it Red before installing it as I planned to 'Dip' the grille Black (bought a spare grille on eBay for $100 a few weeks ago so I don't have to risk my original grille). If it's too wild for my taste after I'm finished, I can always peel the 'Dip' off the mesh and install it Black behind my factory grill, which should look fine. My vehicle is already pretty unique, so although I have the urge to customize it...I don't want to go overboard.

Insylem, if you're not in a hurry I'll gladly be the test subject and post some pictures when I'm finished.

YAY I got mine ordered from Summit Racing. Also got some grab handles for the back seats. The factory ones dont go far enough forward. My dad suggested a beter place for them, and then I saw a sweet looking JK at work and it had the handles where my dad said they needed to be, and I happened to see them on the website so I ordered them too. I got the red ones.

That would be nice.
A Friend of mine suggested red because of the red tow hooks on the front of my 10A. I agree and think it would be really nice looking.

In December I got the E-Autogrille black screen for about $54. I got it just in time as I see that it is now going for $258!! Crazy money! For the $54 it's a really great buy, attaches very securely and looks awesome. I also dipped mine metallic dark gray.

Just installed the Rugged Ridge grill insert today.

Went okay, my only complaint is that the insert had too much of a bow, resulting in a gap between the grill and insert at the bottom of the center slots. Will have to add some kind of fastener at a later date.

I just ordered a flat black grill for my Anvil JKU. Do you think gloss inserts would look good? I was wondering if I should go flat black or maybe even by some Anvil rattle can. Any thoughts?

Well, I was under the gun to get the mesh grille insert finished BEFORE my winch was installed. Ended up not going with a Black plasti-dip grille and painted the Rugged Ridge mesh grille insert Red using Rustoleum, I think the color is Cherry Red. I tried some Red plasti-dip but it wasn't bright enough.

Here's how it turned out:
