Rugged Ridge Modular XHD Front Bumper

Anyone have this bumper? I am wondering if it is just gimicky or actually useful when put together with the lockable storage end sections... I think when combined with the bull bar and winch mount it's a pretty nice looking setup. Very curious though if it end up rattling and making a ton of noise since it's not all one piece.

If you have it installed, do me a favor a post a pic... Thanks.

I am just about ready to order both the front and rear bumpers from Quadratec today or tomorrow, along with some new fenders.
I think they are great and have read some reviews of people who have them.
If I got the ones with the storage boxs, I would have some thick foam to stuff down in them to keep stuff from bouncing around.
Here is a link to a few pics that I checked out as I was deciding.

I don't have the storage ends. I've been happy with ours. The pics with the stubby ends are due to having the control arms to long and it was running when articulating. I fixed the control arm lengths the other day and put the "wings" back on.
The couple spots that I had scraped the powder coat off, I touched up with spray on bed liner. It's been on for about 3 yrs and holding up well

It is a pretty nice set-up. Most people will flame you for not buying an American made bumper, but I don't care. The locking bins works very well. I got my winch remote and tow strap in the one side and all my tire inflation stuff in the other side. Free up a lot of space inside the Jeep since we got a 2 door and 2 big dogs.

I love mine! I have the stubby ends. Check out my avatar. It took a couple hard hits on rocks last weekend and is solid. Needs a little touch up paint but there are no dents in it.

I have it. No ends, cause I am not a fan of full width bumpers, but it isn't gimmiky. Rugged Ridge makes good stuff, although mass produced, not made to order like Poison Spyder or JCR.

I have the stinger and a winch on it. Does it's job 10 fold.

Those poison spyder and jcr bumpers can run some $$$

So can the Rugged Ridge. All the add ons are purchased separately. The stinger and end caps are about $100 a piece, pair for the ends. Can easily be close to $700 when all tallied. Probably what you would pay for a JCR.

Yeah but the soft OEM bumpers get jacked up pretty easily.

I have the bumper with stubby end caps/winch/and bar. I really like the bumper and it has save my jeep once already so it paid for itself. Very stout bumper. Hit a Deer at 40 mph and all that happened was I had to pluck the deer hair out of the winch rope. Well the deer was messed up pretty bad though.

Yes. Hoping the MT/R's in 35/12.5/15 have better balance then the 33 Duratrac's

I want to go to 35's next. I am really geared a little low for 33's and 4.88 gears. Just took a trip to Myrtle Beach last week and at 75 mph, I was running around 2800 rpms.

Wished they made 35/11.5/15. It would be a much better size to balance, better gas mileage, and for the most part a better overall tire for trail and road then the 12.5's.

I have this bumper with the bar and a winch. No endcaps. I think it's a quality product.

I think the first time i saw this bumper was on rics' rig, and it looked like the combo of simplicity and strength i was after. Plus, with no frills, it's relatively inexpensive, which was a plus for me since i'm relatively broke.

Thanks for all the reply's y'all. I'm a in 2-dr so the lock boxes were something I was interested in but I dig the way this one looks stubby as well. I gotta check the bumper laws in NJ whether or not I need full width...

So ESP, what are you gonna do about your bumper?

Also from Ontario. Nice bumper. Where did you buy it from? I have been looking at so many different bumpers my head is spinning. I would like to keep the fog lights to use. Looking at shipping costs and all gets the price up.

I am also in ontario and just placed the order with 4wd. I usually pop down to Cleveland for a weekend and pick it up at the Brooke park road location. From the gta it is less than a 6 hour drive.

Does anyone know how the bumper laws work from state to state. For example if you have a stubby and it is legal in your home state and you drive through a state that requires a full width bumper?

I will as of nov 3rd.
I am going to take a measurement before and after.
I am worried about the amount of weight the bumper is going to add so the winch won't be going on until I add a lift. And if the sag is too much before I get to a coil lift I will add some poly spacer's to get the height back

does it usually make it sag that much with a bumper and winch?

I have the Rugged Ridge XHD aluminum bumpers front and back. They weigh around 16 pounds. They are well worth the extra money. The aluminum is very thick and sturdy. I would recommend them.

From everything I have read it is the equivalent of adding an extra 100 pounds to the front end. And just by having one of my kids sit on the front there is a noticeable difference.

Yes, the weight savings is great, but I wonder how rugged they are compared to the steel.

Hi Potts,

Sorry for the reply delay but I just joined the Forum. If my picture makes it, you can see the RR XHD bumper, winch and other goodies that I installed on my 2011 Sahara. The recovery gear is in the storage ends protected by freezer bags.

both nice setups. really is a nice looking bumper...my wallet says minimalist but I really like the locking end caps for recovery gear. Since you put stuff in freezer bags, does that mean the storage end caps aren't water proof?
