Runnin' Boards

Newbie here asking about running boards for an 09 2 door x. I want to get some, but don't know what my best option is. I'm looking for some that are easy enough to install on my own and I don't want to spend too much. Theyre more for aesthetic purposes than functionality. Any ideas?

Welcome!

There are some great threads regarding ACE rock rails, as they do double-duty as steps and are very highly thought of here on the forums.

I have a set sitting under the tree right now myself!

re: stock Jeep running boards
based on 11 months in a JK Safari:

I've grown used to their esthetic, and they actually DO seem to protect to some degree against gravel/etc banging into the body.

On the other hand, they are of only rare use to step upon.

They add width so that those of us blessed with short legs get the pleasure of always brushing the rear of our dismounting leg against the often wet, muddy or both edge of the running board.

Further, from reading here on the forum, it appears there is scant report the stock versions offer any real rock crawler protection.

If your intent is to purchase some, I'd encourage careful search to find a design that better achieves your goals.

And yes, the 'look' actually did grow on me. Was going to remove them but have settled for now to keep them installed....but certainly wouldn't buy a set at this point.

Looking for running boards or rock rails? 2 different things. The rock rails are pricey but protects the vulnerable body when wheeling and some do extend out to create a step.
