Rust on a two year old

Good Evening Everyone,
I realize this has been discussed to length, I read the other threads, somehow I still think this case is worse.

I bought my 2013 JK in 2013. It was built in May and delivered in July of that same year. Ever since, I have been having rust issues, inside and out of the vehicle.
We live in Canada, so weather-wise, it has seen everything. It sleeps outside 24/7. Top is always closed if it's going to rain. It has never seen a trail.

The odometer reads 7550 km (not miles) after 2 years. Still under warranty.

How do I have so much rust? Should I keep it? Do I have any legal recourse? Can I return it? (It has been paid off in full)
These are only some of the pics, as I can only post 5 pics. The hinges on the trunk and on the door are turning white.

That really is the handbreak on the third pic. How does a handbreak rust???

Thanks for the input. Much appreciated
John

As for the undercarriage, that is normal for your environment.

Now for the rest of the item's rusting, no. Look in your Owners manual and you will find a section regarding warranty to cover rust. I would take it back to your Dealer and have them look at it. When you arrive, reference that section in your owners manual to them.

Good Luck...:thumb:

Underneath looks completely normal. Interior is a bit weird to already be rusting. There's moisture coming in there someplace. I'd see the dealer about it. That's not normal.

Hi John. Mike here, also from Montreal.
Call Domenic Chiarappa at Krown (514) 828 - 9009
They rustproof using Krown product and do a fantastic job.
Even though it looks you have some surface rust, it will stop it from spreading and make it look much better. Cost will be about $120, but well worth it.

He does mine every year. Still looks like a champ and it exists in the exact same climate as yours.

Seriously, you have nothing to loose.

Thanks Mike I will definitely give them a call this week.

But here is the whole story.
I take possession in Aug 2013, In Sept I find five spots of rust both inside and outside. I take it back to the dealer. After long discussions, three rounds of picture taking and 3 months, they agreed to fix it. The first repair was terrible, I had to get a letter from a lawyer to have the work redone.
Now two years later, I get 8 new spots. Again some inside, some outside. This time the repairs were approved within one hour, But my concern is the recurring rust. Is this going to be a permanent problem? I knew going in that JK's had a rust issue, but this is crazy. I will definitely call Krown but I may also opt to go after Chrysler for hidden vices or even exchange the JK for a new one.

Has anyone had a rust issue similar to this? Is this going to be a problem every year? Should I attempt to return the car? I don't want a rust bucket in 5 years. Two lawyers and a mediator service all agreed that going after Chrysler is feasible and the probability of a successful outcome is high (very low mileage). This is not the route I prefer but I may have no other choice.

Thanks for the help

Mine is a 2013 as well, there were a lot around that time that had surface rust come up fast underneath. I'm hardly in winter weather, they use salt here, but not like up north. I have surface rust underneath, not quite a bad as yours, but there.

I also have some rust inside on the legs and bolt areas for the seats. I do get wet, and I have hosed out the interior many times. I'm putting up with it for now, I'm thinking of blasting the seat brackets at some point and having them powdercoated with a zinc primer.

As much as I'd like to warranty some of this stuff out, it's not worth it in the end. Fixing it right is better in the long term, and that means you have to do it. Even if I got them to replace the seat brackets and all - I'd probably have the same issue in another year or two..

I'd try what Mike said, it's a good product. If I could find someplace here that would do it I would have it done. I didn't think about it, but I should have done it when I was up there a few weeks ago.

OK right.
So I also spoke to my brother, a mechanical engineer with a minor in material science. He said that Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler are the very last few who have not yet understood that you cannot weld/screw/put in contact two metal that are far apart on the periodic table because it always leads to rust; they should either use a same (more similar) metal or use a non-metal spacer.
Finally the dealership is fixing everything under warranty. But like you said, They are going to half-ass it again.
So now I was wondering, can we get these parts after market or custom made?

Krown will do its thing for the undercarriage. So, with that being said, the issue is the interior. If chrysler is going to replace the parts, we'll use the sear brackets for example, I would remove them, scratch and use a primer.

So strange though.

My wife's 13 looks the same inside. Even the heads of the seat bolts have rust on them. Vehicle has never leaked a drop. The problem here is all of the road salt and sand they use here in the winter. Comes with the territory. For the most part, there's either snow or water inside all winter just from getting in. It takes me about an entire day to get rid of the salt stains from the carpet in the spring around the edges of where the slush mats were.

MGA60TW: As long as i've owned the jeep, it has not been flooded.

Tc457: My seat bolts also had rust on them too the first time around, and they replaced them. I don't think it's the salt, I have rubber mats and absolutely no salt or calcium stains on the floor liners or the carpets. What steps are you going to take to rectify the rust? you can't just leave it there, can you? Jeep has agreed to repair and replace all these parts under the original warranty (even for the second time)...

I just dropped her off at the dealer, They said they'll take care of everything.
(While there, I checked the undercarriage on the used cars lot, those Jeeps had very little rust).

The dealership is going to be taking care of it and I'm going to make a plan from there as far as protecting it from happening again. Probably going to use some other type of paint or coating on the parts. One other issue my wife's had was that the fastener on the back window which holds the wiper motor on the window was rusting and staining the glass and they had to take care of that a while back.

Personally I think Jeep got some not so great parts or looked for cheaper alternatives for the 13's because my 11 doesn't have half of these issues.
