I have a black jku that I want to dress all in black. I have a 3.5 aev lift and wanted to get black pintlers to go with it. Apparently, they are in backorder and Saltas are available.
I have heard there are some design issues with pintlers. Is that still the case?
Know of any store who carries black pintlers in stock? I tried all the big names.
What are your thoughts on Saltas looks, design and performance?
If you dont want to wait for pintlers, check out the mammoth boulders. Thats what I have been eyeing up. They look pretty similar but are much cheaper.
I had Pintlers on order, but they were weeks out, so I bought the Mammoths. $75 less a wheel, ($375 less total), look better (IMO), are lighter, and will hold the Jeep hubcap. I have since replaced the log nuts with black ones.
Mopar also has their version of the Pintlers as well with a Jeep hubcap.
Pintlers are definitely a classic look. I really like the Salta. It has an "industrial" look to it, that fits the Jeep well.
Something to is the new Mopar Beadlock. They are a smoking good price for a true bead lock wheel. You can have the ring done in a powdercoat, or a paint, or just leave it to breakup the color of the tire from the rim.
In any case, here is the Moparonlineparts.com webpage on these wheels, and more.
Benny is a good guy to work with as a vendor on this forum.
The Mopars are AEV's. Get what you want, waiting days or weeks to get what one Really wants and will have for years is a no brainer. Asking for others opinions to justify the jump is follie and a mistake.
Don't know the "deal", but they are Pintlers with the Jeep center cap.
Might check with Benny at Moparonlineparts.com He is in the vendor section, or you can PM him directly. He's pretty good with getting back to people quickly... although today being Sunday, you might not hear back until tomorrow.
One question that comes to mind is, why is everyone out of stock?
Makes me wonder if AEV is working with their Chinese supplier to make them stronger around the lip area. If so, that would be a very cool thing.
Wish they'd come back with the beadlock version. I really liked the looks of that wheel a lot!
Might be worth a call to AEV to see what the deal is.
Re: the center cap... I have Mopar Savegres, not Pintlers, but they came with both AEV and Jeep caps. (The AEV caps, which I use, are color matched to the wheel and not the cool yellow ones.)
first time seeing these there nice .to me they look more military ish ..i like thumbs up I original wanted pintlers but couldn't justify paying $225 a wheel ouch ... I went a different route
I contacted AEV today and they said red stickers don't exist.... I say they are full of it!
