I'm making a long-delayed return trip to Moab next month. Driving to / from San Diego. My 3-year-old will be along so I'm looking for good places to stop for breaks/food/scenery/potty along the way.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
P.S. I'm also looking for mild / easy trail suggestions. This trip is mostly about meeting up with my brothers and spending time with the kids.
Good questions. Most likely one long driving day each way -thus the need for several stops to let the kid move around- and probably I15 to I70 (with a possible drive by Hoover dam) on the way there. Maybe 191 South on the way back.
Well if you are taking the 15 to the 70...you can stop near Barstow at the Calico Ghost Town. A bunch of guys with the forum meet their annually (or more) to hang out, camp, and wheel. With the kids (and even the adults if youve never been), there is the Ghost Town that has stores, old buildings, a train ride, restaurants...etc. If you can track down a local, there is also some good wheeling out there as well. There is also Vegas along the way. Obviously more adult oriented...but cool nonetheless. You've got the strip and what not. I hear there is some wheeling out that direction as well...not familiar with the area though. I havent been much farther up the 15...but there is St. George, UT which I have heard is a pretty cool place as well.
Had you been heading up 395 for whatever reason (obviously not for Moab) I could have told you about a lot of places along the way since that is much more familiar to me...but that is way out of your way for a trip to Moab:rofl:
There is a member on here with an awesome Orange Crush Jeep who took a moab trip. Awesome pics and documentation of his trip, research and what he enjoyed the most. I'd search for MOAB for more info. He was a amateur photographer I believe. Check him out.

On the way to Moab you could stop in Zion, Brice, Capitol Reef and the Grand Staircase.
Once you are in Moab, there is Canyonlands, Arches, Dead Horse Point State Park and a ton of other stuff.
Here is a list of trails on their ratings Red Rock 4-Wheelers, Inc. -
Not difficult, but very scenic is the Shafer Canyon Road to Potash Road.
