Currently have a hard top and will be installing the NX Glide when its ships. I plan on running topless as much as possible when weather permits. Which security enclosure do you guys recommend and why? Do I need the back seat in my JK for them to work? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm weighing the same decision myself. Most seem to choose Tuffy products, like the 326. I like the Jeep Backbone (like NoGaBiker has) although it is more costly - I'd love to see one in person before pulling the trigger... Aries has a deck that opens up like the Tuffy as well.

I don't have a clue which one to get, the thing I would most like it to have is some type of weather protection and of course security. Hopefully someone in the know will chime in.

I'm in the process of designing/building my own....the purchased ones are too $$ in my opinion (for what they are) and most lack doors/access that I want..

...my list of criteria is as follows:

  • Access to compartment from rear of vehicle through window (tailgate closed)
  • Access to compartment from interior of vehicle from back seat (seat up)
  • Top panel/lid (at least 40" wide to match minimum width of cargo compartment/tailgate) must be removable WITHOUT ANY tools and must be able to be folded/left in the open position while in-place.
  • Top panel must be lockable....this part is currently in development - I'm planning on wiring it to the power locks so that it will lock/unlock with the doors.
  • Back panel (behind seats) must be fold-able for long items when seats are folded flat....and obviously lockable when seats are up.
...that's not too hard, right? :)

Yeah..nothing like a challenge...

I'm pretty sure I can build it for just under $100..buying parts now..I'm sure there is something I have forgotten, but....we'll see.

Oh..it needs tie-downs as well..and must look OEM-ish..

I just picked up a used Tuffy 299. I have a 4 door and I like it. It provides both security as well as another platform to store things on. It helps to maximize storage. I'm getting a net to secure on top to keep everything from blowing out. The only downside for me is that I use the Jeep to haul stuff around. It's not tough to get the unit out, but it will require abut of time.

They Both mount to existing anchor points.

Question: Anybody stow gear On Top of the 326? It seems pretty sturdy.....

What about the back seat? Does it need to be in to be secure?

Not sure what the price difference is but, I have the 326 which "tilts" Big deal (not) I never use the feature.
It's a pretty robust enclosure, The Lid is a hand full to wrestle with alone.
I took it out when I took my Dogs to the groomer, came in handy I guess vs the 299 (fixed lid)

I'm going to order one I think. It looks to be a little weather resistant also. Maybe Rick and Q-tech will hook me up.

What's the difference between the 299 and the 326?
