Serpentine belt split

I was driving home today and herd a weird noise from the engine bay. Stopped , put in neutral, and revved engine and heard it again. Couldn't hear it at idle at all. Drove home , about a mile, turned it off, and popped the hood. After looking close I seen the serpentine belt and it's split down the middle with long pieces of belt hanging off. I have 2200 miles on my 12'. Should it be covered in warranty and has anyone else heard of this?

under warranty,, i doubt it, after all it is a consumable item,,, those are not covered,,, but with 2200 mile on the clock the dealer should change it out as a show of good faith. give it a shot, you never know.

Definitely have the dealer look at it. With only 2200 miles, it's either a defective belt or something else caused it. My wife's Liberty shredded a belt which ended up being caused by a bad water pump, which is covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty.

It's clearly covered by warranty and any Chrysler dealer will replace it for you.

It must have been a defective belt. Or, you may have a defective pulley or something that cut it. Dealer will take care of you. It's hard to imagine how it could be blamed on you.

Read the warranty. It's pretty clear about what is and is not covered.

They said they found a lot of dirt in the area. I don't know how that got there. Lol. But they replaced it for free.

Dirt or no dirt it's up to them to replace it. It's not like you had the hood open throwing it in with a shovel. If there was to much in there ask why there's a design flaw lol Glad you got it fixed. Even the belts manufacturer should have warranted it.

Right? I mean it's not like I'm driving a Cromed out hummer. I'm driving a jeep. Its suppose to be able to go thru dirt and water.
