shift lever extension mod

I have never been comfortable reaching for the stubby shift lever in my manual trans 2007 JK and have not been unable to find a commercial extension. This is my answer. The shift lever appears to be 9/16 in width. I took a weldable steel tube that fits snuggly over the shift lever. I heated it with a torch until I could bend the tube to the desired angle. I welded a small piece of solid bar stock (5/8) into the top end of the tube and ground it down until I could mount an after market shift knob (the bullet) on top. I drilled and tapped a hole in the bottom end of the tube and inserted a set screw to keep the shift lever tube fron moving. Painted it black and I get the old school CJ feel from my JK.

If I ever desire to go back to the stock set up all I have to do is loosen the set screw, remove the tube, and replace the shift knob.
