It takes confidence in your engineering department to turn down a recall. If just one crash related death can be tied back to this NHTSA request, this turn down can be used against them for bigger payouts.
With the way our government seems to be running of late, I would not be surpised with bad analysis from NHTSA.
After looking at the chart of deaths per million units, don't buy a 1995-1999 Eagle Talon or Mitusbishi elclipse.
