I bought a really short one first, probably was a 7". Worst reception.
I then got a 14" and it works perfect. I mostly listen to Sirius, but sometime I need to hear a hockey game (Sabres) on AM

yes, anything under 13 inches and reception is really compromised. But we now offer a 7 inch for those that want the look with less reception:

Amazon.com: Black Billet (7" inch) ANTENNA - 2007 thru 2013 Jeep WRANGLER Unlimited JK: Automotive

I didn't realize the reception would be really compromised with the 7 inch. How big of a problem will it be?

Like trying to receive digital TV channels with rabbit ears (7") vs a full sized outdoor antenna on your roof (35" stock).

depends on where you live. I put the 7" on mine to try it out and reception was still pretty good, but keep in mind I live in Orlando where it is flat

Should have read, "no reception problems". Must be getting to late, having trouble typing.

I wonder how many people put on a stubby antenna then add a large CB one or a hilift that sticks up over their roofline....

long CB antennas look manly, long skinny am/fm antennas look wimpy and can cause windshield / body damage offroad

i'll tell you why - because the CB antenna and hi-lift don't whip back into my windshield or a-pillar. so if it hits anything on the trail... it's not smacking my rig afterwards

I have to agree on the looks part. I have a handheld CB for now (got it free) but plan to add a full size with antenna after other mods.

I am old enough to remember when a man's vehicle had to have one. :-) one of the favorite options I had on any vehicle was the factory AM/FM/8 track/CB that came on a 79 Cadillac I picked up in the early 90s.

Well, the 13" AntennaX from Amazon definitely does not have the signal strength of
the OEM. Even the strongest stations in town here have a fuzz/buzz for a second
every 5-7 seconds then clear, then quick blip, then clear...

Just hand tightened, but pretty well... going to try to give it an extra turn and see if it
helps. Don't really listen to the radio much anyway and it sure does look a lot better.

ok, can you check to make sure the thread inside the bottom of the antenna is screwed into the top all the way. you can check by twisting off the bottom 2 inch plastic base, you will see a thread inside. Make sure it is screwed in all the way to the top mast, reassemble and try it out as this might solve the reception problem, Keep me posted

Yep, figured it was one of the two connections with the good reviews on here.
Tomorrow I'll check both and tighten the adapter into the antenna well first,
then back into the Jeep. Sure I did that the first go-round, but it won't hurt
to check.

I just installed the 7 inch antenna. It looks great and doesn't seem to cause any reception issues as of yet.

Must not have been fully tightened. Took it back off, tightened the adapter
down first, then the antenna. Works great now.

$5 shipping to Canada on Antenna X, where I got mine. Took about 8 working days to Canada. Amazon.com is a ripoff when you ship to Canada.

Antennax.com - JEEP

I usually ship things to an address in Detroit, MI (for free) and go pick them up but $5 is less than what it would cost me to go over the border.

someone that is an unauthorized dealer is selling our products on amazon.ca for twice as much. We haven't ventured on amazon.ca yet, but might have to now

I installed 14" on my wife's and on mine. She gets great reception while I barely get any reception at all. It's hit or miss I guess.

I have the 14" one from AntennaX. It's okay but obviously not near as good as stock. However, I do listen to NPR (esp Car Talk & news) and two local radio channels and in the mountains, it all fades anyway, so not a big deal...the 14" just fades very quickly. I have Sirius to save me. The stock one hits stiff and whacks the Jeep sometime though. Has down no damage but it freaks me out once in a while. That is why I replaced it.
