Please PM me when you take that perfectly good engine out of your new JK. I'd love to have it. I absolutely love the way mine makes power!!!

My BIL drives a TJ Rubicon and i have a 4 door Jk with no lockers. He always mention that i almost dont need it.Going up waterfalls i can climb it with no problem and he cant get up it or have difficulty even locked front and back.Really nice to have long wheel base but i do have high centering problems due to it.

Both Jeeps are capable but have their own weaknesses.Because of this i think the XJs are a good compromise.

Talking Went to the local dealer today...

...And priced out a '12 Rubicon 2-door. Offered my '06 Rubi (mint-stock, 16.5 K miles) as a trade. Going back tomorrow (this time with the '06) to test drive an in-stock Jeep (not a Rubicon though). They are *initially* offering approx $17K for my '06 and asking MSRP $31K for the '12.

Guess I've got some dealing to do!

Looking at ordering a '12 Rubi with soft-top & half doors. The only option is for tinted windows ($300). Either they give me a deal or I'll hang on to my '06.

Join Tread Lightly and get a guaranteed price of 2% below invoice (not MSRP, *invoice*) for that 2012. Search that huge 2012 thread for "tread lightly" or "TL" for the details.

I could have purchased a JK but the moment I saw the mint condition TJ nothing could compare.True. The ride is gentler, the sound system is louder, and the fuel economy is better. But IMO the 06 TJ was the end of an era. No disrespect to the JK. It's still a Jeep and it's the next generation and quite an awesome rig. I am just the "old school" type and the TJ suites me. So I guess it just depends on what works for you.

JK or JKU because my JK requires no tools and is real simple to remove the rear seat. Not sure what isn't super easy about removing a JK seat. Heard JKU's were different but don't know.

I had a 97 TJ Sport hard top. It was great, I lifted it 4” and put air lockers on it (ARB) and was running 33" tires with 4.10, it was great it would go just about anywhere.

Now I have a 2012 JKUR no comparison a new vehicle will beat a 14 year old one any day of the week.
quieter, faster, factory lockers, 2” lift stock, 4.10 stock, NAV system, more room for gear and passengers so many options I can’t even list them all.

97 TJ noisy, spent $12,000 in upgrades to make it a Rubicon, short wheelbase not so stable backing up on a hill coming back down.

Both are nice vehicles in 97 the TJ was it and now the JK is it, in 10 years the JJ or whatever will be it.

Great points and discussion everyone thinks their rig is the best and none of us have ever gotten stuck and had to be pulled out right.

I keep eyeing those darn JK's too..........

But my TJ 2006 is paid off and only has 17,000 miles.
My VW 2009 GTI has 4,000 miles.......

One recall on each of them...taken care of.

Thing holding me back, too many recalls on the JK.

I'm gonna have to hold out a little bit longer, what scares me is that *cooling* problem that Chrysler just wants to put a band-aid on.

Another JK owner,on another forum today reported his JK went up in flames this morning.
There's a website with at least 50 complaints of them catching on fire........

Reminds of those issues Ford was having a decade ago with their trucks.

Where you getting this info.
The cooling prob I am assuming your talking about the autos overheating. It was an inexpensive fix that jeep took care of in
2012-no worries.
I have not seen any major complaints with the 2012 yet. It still a jk and besides the new engine and auto/tranny change-most of the kinks have been worked out

Talking Well, I did it!

Ordered a 2012 Rubicon 2-door 6-speed soft-top half-doors in cosmos blue with tinted windows and trailer tow package. Got it for 1% under invoice with my NEW Tread Lightly membership. After searching around through several dealers I finally got a nice offer on my '06 Rubicon and it's being traded. The dealer wants me to hang on to the '06 until the '12 comes in (about 5 weeks or so). Gotta say that after driving one of the 2012's the '06 feels OLD. The interior on the '12 seemed so much more comfortable and man it was quiet too (the one I drove had a hardtop). Plenty of power although I really didn't get on it too much (only 5 miles of freeway driving plus about 10 miles of city streets). SO MUCH SMOOTHER everywhere; I know I made the right decision for me.

1%, not 2% ... Though 2%+ has proved fairly easy to get.

I missed a lot of reading here but I'm just going to throw my opinion in. I like the older rugged look of the TJs. If I could I'd get a YJ. The new JK's just don't look ok. If I were to buy one I'd so go with the two doors unless you wanna drive like a hummer through the woods or be mistaken for a hummer on the road :O major insult there.

Thanx for your opinion, it's always good to get a well rounded idea of all the choices, but

Judging by your "images"--you need a JK/JKU and nobody would EVER accuse you of driving a "HUMMER"

Don't know why anyone would want to wheel a new vehicle. If you have the cash to drop on tearing up your nice stuff then go for it. I like whatever jeep is easiest to work on. I actually dd my yj and to tell you the truth it's not very comfortable. Don't get me wrong I love it and will never get rid of it. Next vehicle I buy for dd will be a nice truck or car. Maybe the new jeep truck, it looks like it's gonna be sick.
