Should of bought a truck?

I was leaving work with a coworker today and he says,"I like your jeep and all, the stance is nice, but you should of just bought a truck." I got kind of annoyed but took the high road and said, "I'm good man. I love my jeep." He goes, "yea but you can't haul anything, they suck in the snow, and they just ride horrible." I had to walk away from the conversation at this point. I then walked to my jeep, put the top down, turned on some Zeppelin, and drove the speed limit(so it would take longer). I drove along Lake Michigan to feel the lake breeze as I found my way home at midnight and still 85 degrees. This is why I bought a Jeep. I guess that feeling is hard to explain.

This.

My Jeep is as good, or better, in snow than any pickup I've owned. And they make these things called trailers for the two times per year that I need to haul anything in significant size.

You were speaking to a person that wishes he had a Jeep. lol.

All of the above.

A) a small trailer makes much more possible
B) driving in the snow is less a matter of vehicle and more driver. I have front and rear auto-lockers on my TJ, and i wouldn't set a novice to it, but i do fine when going snowboarding. I imagine a non-locked wrangler or LSD equipped would be perfect in the snow. (although my 350Z was virtually impossible, I managed to drive it around a montana winter for 3 months somehow)

I have both, and there is pros and cons to each. Depends on what type of truck, jeep, tires, terrain, etc....
My truck will run circles around my jeep in the mud and is better for wet driving, both have the same set of tires. But, the jeep, well, its a jeep!, just something about them that makes you love them!
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the comments he made, he has some points but in the end it's about what you want, what you need. You don't have to make others happy with your choices. If the jeep works for you then that's all that matters.

Well I'll say this, I've had nothing but trucks and just bought my first jeep, the only thing I'm unsure of is why I didn't buy a jeep sooner....all these years I missed out on owning one!!! I love it, however I still have a truck, and a sports car, but I could go with out them! I really love the jeep!!!

Try putting the top down on a truck and driving along lake Michigan. I think your reaction and response said it all.
BTW I drive the limit or Lower just to take longer on the rides! Jeep On.

My best friend has a lifted Silverado which he loves and he still drools at my Jeep. They're two different animals, anyone that has some braincells will be able to appreciate both for what they're made for. You won't be able to fit your quad in the back of a Wrangler and the truck won't be able to sneak through most of the trails that the Jeep will conquer with ease.

In short, screw that guy - he's definitely jealous.

Had Jeeps all of my life. I bought a Ram 1500 new in 2011. LOVED it, but very hard to park, get around in the city. I really didn't haul anything, but towed my RZR. I always felt like a county bumpkin driving it, no offense to anyone. I went to the beach for family vacation last month and saw hundreds of Jeeps. On the drive home told the wife we are selling this "Rig" and getting a Jeep again! My daughter loved the "Rig" as she had a great view from the back seat. Kept telling me don't get a Jeep, I love the Rig! Well now guess what? She loves the Jeep! The view is fantastic, plus she loves the Jeep wave!
They are 2 completely different vehicles, the Ram had a 5.7 HEMI and had way more power than the Jeep, but the Jeep is topless. Surprising enough the Ram and Jeep ride the same. Jeep steering a bit looser, but the suspension on both are similar. There are other differences, but I'll give up power for fun, coolness and Jeep Wave (for my daughter) any day!

Ride on! :iamhappy:

Trucks are good. Jeeps are good. Porsches are good. Even FJ Cruisers are good in their own snarky, overpriced way.

My brother is a 'vette guy. I'm a 911 guy. We have been razzing each other about the idiocy of each other's cars for 20 years. I'd think something was wrong with him, like terminal cancer, if he wasn't telling me what a POS the 911 is. It's what car guys do.

Look at this another way, seriously. Think about all the guys you know at work. How many of them even bother to notice, comment on, or discuss with you your Jeep? Probably not very many. Because most people aren't car guys. Cars/trucks/Jeeps don't matter to them. 3 months after they get a new one the new has worn off and it's just a transportation pod for them.

But a car guy notices, comments, cares. If he is in the same camp as you, he will verbally high-five you over your new valve stem caps that he noticed in the parking lot. If he is of a different, "sworn enemies" camp, he'll razz you and say the value of your Jeep just doubled when you added those six dollar caps. Whatever. He's a car guy, he noticed, and he thought it was worth starting a convo about.

Embrace it! Come up with a stock set of anti-truck crap for him. Don't get personal. Don't let it get under your skin. Ask him what are the things he likes about his truck. Start an actual adult conversation about the subject. You might be surprised.

By the way, you did good to not get in an actual pissing contest with him. Just take it to the next level next time.

I have a f250 super duty and a jeep. We live in New England and got over 100+ inches of snow last year. My jeep was great! I love my jeep! Sometimes we take 2 vehicles to camp just so I can drive my jeep up north topless. Trucks r great for bringing everything u own with u , but a jeep just lets u enjoy the ride. Can't wait to make a trip up the coast to make summer memories with family and jeep. 😉

For the last nearly 30 years I've owned nothing but trucks. I only bought my first Jeep about two years ago (97 TJ) and even then it was an extra vehicle for us. I few months ago it got totaled and I decided to buy a new Jeep to replace it and ditch the truck for good. It was with no small amount of trepidation that I reached my decision. A truck is one of those things that you don't need every day (for hauling) but on those occasions when you do need one they're indispensable. I've never understood how folks get by without one.

Eventually I came to the conclusion that probably 95% of the hauling I did with my truck (which isn't really all that frequent) could be just as effectively accomplished with a jeep and a small utility trailer. And it has worked out fine so far. I dove off into a major bathroom remodel right after I got the jeep and I've probably hauled more stuff with the jeep in the past 3 months than I did with my truck in the past year.

Obviously I can't haul anything really big like a camper or a big boat or a horse trailer or something, but that's OK because I don't have any of those things :). In the meantime the jeep is tons more nimble and maneuverable in parking lots and narrow streets and such. I actually look forward to going places in the jeep, even just to run errands around town. I never really felt that way about my truck.

My brother and I are both f-body guys... I've had 2 firebirds and a camaro, and my brother has had a firebird and a camaro. We will argue who's is better and why. Now I have a Hemi grand cherokee and the TJ, he has a massive lifted Silverado 2500HD. He argues his diesel is faster then my WK, and then argues his truck is more all-terrain then my Jeep. No matter what... some people just have a superiority complex... I'd put money that if you were to get a truck, that guy would tell you why it's the wrong truck for whatever reason.

Personally, the WK hauls enough for family vacations and things like that. The TJ is fun, customizable to endless limits, and perfect off-road vehicle. My brother's big bad truck.... well to me it's nothing more then an inconvenience to drive, and a target to anyone who needs stuff moved, picked up, or pulled. If that's what makes his truck better, then power to him (granted, he does have a reason for owning that monster... tows his 35' fishing boat and my dads 40' project boat, plus all the landscaping and renovations hes doing on his house)

I try to just ignore comments like that. Right after we bought our Jeep, a buddy (who drives an older, stock 2-door) that he commutes in and nothing more, left this comment on a Facebook photo: "That's nice but why would you buy a 4-door?"

My actual reply: Because for our life, a 4-dr is better. We have two large-breed dogs, go camping and need to haul them and our gear, want to have kids, and we liked it.

Then he replied with: I just like 2-doors better.

What I wanted to say: Why did you buy a piece of s***? My Jeep trumps yours, and yours will never leave the pavement. Can't you ever just be supportive?

But I was nice ;) To each his own, and remember what your mother always said... If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

"Should have bought a Truck" Why? Anytime somebody "needs" a Truck they just call the dumbass who bought one and - Borrows theirs.

The other 364 days a year they cruise around in their Jeep loving life.

"The End":)

Thanks for all the positive responses. I guess my point was that it is hard to convey the feeling of driving a jeep. I had a 79 cj5 for 15 years that I drove all over the country. I have so many memories of getting caught in storms, break downs, and close calls. What I remember most is how much fun I had.

I do not want anyone to tell me I made a good decision purchasing a jeep. I know I did. I know that feeling. Every time a jeep owner passes and waves, when I take the top off, or when my kids are thinking they are hot shit in the back seat jamming to whatever is on the radio.

I'm 36 years old and have had a jeep for most of my life. When I didn't have one, I was looking for one. That is what everyone here has in common. We all know that feeling.
