Side & Back Vinyl Windows/ Bestop Cleaner

1st post (yay.) New Jeep owner - 3 months, '11 JKU Sport, flame red, soft top.

Followed advice and bought the Bestop window cleaner. Used it yesterday. Worked great on inside. On outside (tinted side) it left a kind if oily smear/ streak. Can't buff it out. Any suggestions?

BTW: Love the forum, lots of great advise and information.

Doesn't Bestop have a 3 step cleaner?

Read through these two threads, they should help you prevent damage to your windows when cleaning:

clean the plastic windows?
How to clean softtop windows

Not sure myself how to get oily film off your windows...PM one of the forum folks here, Geoff@Bestop, he'll be able to help you.

You got the right stuff; kjeeper's thinking about the actual soft top cleaner, I think.

Yesterday I talked to the detail shop guys at the Wilmington Jeep dealer. Told them what I had used, what happened, etc. Dude grabs a spray bottle and a chamois and heads to my Jeep. Sprays the windows, wipes them off. Streaks gone. He tells me that the stuff in the spray bottle was a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of Maguire's and Valvoline spray wax. Said he uses it on all the Jeeps on the lot, been for awhile. No problems with yellowing, graying, etc. Being a wax it also helps water bead off.
I'll keep y'all posted on the windows, if anything bad happens to them.

This is an old thread, but have you any update to this? I also just used the Bestop Vinyl Cleaner for the windows and had the same oily residue.

I ultimately made it acceptable by doing a "wet" wipe and remove (as opposed to letting it haze over per the instructions), and used a terrycloth towel instead of a microfiber to buff the windows.

Seemed to work okay, but it was a real pain to get off.

I PM'd Geoff @ Bestop for help, but have not received a response.

It's disappointing, because it seems to work really well. The windows were very clean afterwards, and the water beads up nicely.

The spray wax blend from the dealer detail shop has worked great. Haven't even touched the Bestop stuff since.

Cool. Can you post the products you are using? I can't find the via quick search, and I want to be sure I get the right stuff?

Thanks for the update.

I think it's a mix of Valvoline & Maguires spray waxes. 50/50. Check with your Jeep dealer's body/ detail shop to see what they use. They have to keep the new ones on the lot clean and it wouldn't be a great marketing tool to sell Jeeps with scratched windows due to improper cleaning.

Oily residue when using Bestop Viynly window cleaner

I had the same problem when I first used the Bestop cleaner for my vinyl windows. I could not buff out the film. I purchased the Meguiars and Eagle One (Valvoline) spray on waxes and the film came off with no scratches and a lustrous shine. I mixed it 50/50.
