silicone-based plastic cleaners for fenders and bumper?

I was at Pep Boys today looking for a plastic trim cleaner and protectant for my fenders and bumpers. I picked up this stuff Autoglym, which completely removed any fading from my bumpers. It all looks great, even my soft top.

i didn't realize until after that it was silicone based and after some searching i found out that Silicone based cleaners will crack plastics.

This got me worried, does anyone know if it takes just one application to do damage, or if I should be fine as long as I don't reapply?

Also, whats some good protectors that are safe to use? lol. I know Maguirres Back to Black only lasts a couple of days before it fades or washes off

I've been using turtlewax ICE on my paint, fenders, bumpers, and top. Keeps the fenders and bumpers shedding water and looking black.

The detailer, the paste, or the polish?

I use the liquid. But I've heard equal results from those who use the other products. I also use the detailer when I am in a rush to just get a quick coat on.

I've used Ice liquid (not the spray) and I've noticed some whitening where it got on the fenders. Of coarse, it has been about 5 months since. I have read on other forums that 303 protectant is the best for the plastic fenders, but I have no personal experience.

any idea on whether 303 protectant can double up as soft top protection as well?

Yes. It is made for vinyl. To preserve/protect it. It's a very good product. But I too have been converted to the ICE.... It works as well as anything else I've used on the flares and bumpers. I wouldn't use it on the top tho'..

I'm going to give Black WOW a try this spring.

A lot of folks on the MINI Cooper forums seem to like it for their black fender surrounds.

You can get it on Amazon and other places.

Here's some info:
