Sirius Antenna

Has anyone installed this antenna for an aftermarket HU under the sound bar padding? Crutchfield is telling me it needs to go outside of the vehicle or I will experience bad reception especially since I am in a rural area. Any thoughts on this?

I added one on the center of the sound bar, on the metal part (it's the antenna with a magnetic base). Mine is a soft top and works well all the time. It should also work with the hard top.

I added a Sirius antenna when I upgraded to the RBZ. I could not, for the life of me, make it work in the factory location with the hard top. I had to mount it on the windshield frame and it worked flawlessly.

On that note, rural areas generally get better Sirius reception because of the lack of overhead obstructions.

I ran it from the factory location under the passenger side roll bar. I ran the wire down the roll bar padding to the floor then under the plastic trim along the floor to the dash. I then went under the dash and brought it out under the dash near the stick. Worked great.

I have a soft top. Mine is on the sound bar, under the padding. It works fine. The material used in either type of top should pretty much be transparent to the signals. If you had the antenna under a metal roof, I would suspect you would have problems.

I put mine in the same location. I have a hard top and it works just fine in the rural area in which I live. I do get a pause in signal every now and then when I drive under a canopy of trees. Other than that, I am happy with its performance in that location.

on my 2007 I put mine in the same place, and it worked fine with both hard and soft tops. I never had much signal problem other than the places that the factory one would also, like under gas station covers, and things like that.

Thanks for the info everyone, I will put it in the sound bar. I am kicking myself for not putting it on when I installed the HU, oh well though.

As far as rural vs. urban, the crutchfield guy said in urban areas they usually have receivers on the ground that help with reception. Not sure how much validly goes into that comment, but is what he said.

Thanks again.

I am getting ready to tear into this tomorrow morning and was wondering if the rivots on the door stills just pop out to run the wire, I'd hate to narf them up? Also as I have to tear my dash apart to do this, it seems to be easier if I run the wire on the roll bar from the drivers side rather than going down through the door still. Anyone done it this way?

I stuck the receiver on top of the sound bar and ran the cord through the padding to the pillar between the front and rear door on the drivers side. I then ran it down that pillar to the floor next to the drivers seat (yes, you can just pop out the plastic tabs and they will pop back in). I then ran it under the carpet to the front behind the pedals and sideways to the console. I brought the wire up through the 4 wheel drive knob hole and my aftermarket Sirius device is mounted in the small tray just aft of my shift knob. I had no other use for that small tray so this worked out perfectly for me. Doesn't interfere with my shifting or anything. I have a soft top and have experienced no signal issues, aside from when driving under an underpass.
