Sirius Ending

So my 1 year of free Sirius is coming up. I don't really want to pay full price. Anyone know of any tricks to get the price down low? I was thinking about telling them that I am going to cancel because I only use it to listen to traffic, and it's not worth x amount of money per month, etc.

That should work. I have a lifetime membership on my portable device and purchased my father one last year for his birthday but he never installed it. I had purchased him 3 months of service and he was suposed to call them to get his account set up but he never installed it. I looked at my recent credit card statement and they auto billed me to renew his service (even though he never hooked it up) and I called to cancel. I dont remember the exact deal since obviously it wasnt being used but they offered me something pretty decent to keep it.

Call them and tell them your leaving. They will cut the price in half. I've actually done this every year for 4 years now. Sometimes in Jan I forget to call them and tell them I'm leaving before my renewal and they hit my credit card for the full amount. Then I call and they credit me back half.

When my free service ended and I played the I not sure game with them they gave me 6 more months for a flat $9.95 if I would agree to buy a year subscription at the end of the 6 months

I called and told them that I had their service in two cars and thought that the price was too high and I was going to cancel. They agreed to give me the service for half price for a year. Call them, I think it will work.

Or you could just see what they are asking for a lifetime membership. Not sure what they want these days but I got mine right before the merger for under $200. I like not having to ever worry about paying them a single cent again.

Edit: Also I do believe you can transfer it up to 3x so if you sell the vehicle and get another one sirius ready you can transfer it several times.

There is different deals you can get. It all depends on what you want. I have all the music channels for about 9 bucks a month.

Buy yourself an iPhone and download pandora and Iheart radio app and play through your jeeps radio You can just youtube your fav songs too.. But the longer you wait after your subscription expires the cheaper it gets.. I'm going to wait till they offer to pay me to use it. Haha

About a month before my free year expired, I started getting letters and daily phone calls from Sirius. I ignored them all, allowing the calls to go to voicemail. I allowed my service to expire and lapse for nearly a month, then I got a letter from Sirius offering me a discounted rate for six months. I called them to get more info, then turned them down. Eventually they offerred half price for one year for everything minus traffic. I told them I'd take it only if it would not auto-renew (which would be at the regular rate), and would automatically expire at the end of the 12-month term. And that's the deal I got. When it expires again, I plan on doing about the same thing.

Glad I read this thread. My 12-month free subscription expired a few months ago. I called Sirius today and told them I'm willing to pay half-price for a one year subscription. They agreed so I signed up. Not a bad deal.

I just got my jeep last week and I keep forgetting to activate my 1 year free trial. The thing is...it is working now, and I think the 1 year trial will start when I call them...so why should I be in a hurry to call them? :-)

I didn't have to do anything to activate my free first year subscription. It worked at the dealer lot. I think the purchase date gets forwarded to Sirius as your subscription start date.

So they charge different prices for traffic/non-traffic?

Be careful with Sirius that is already activated when you pick up your Jeep. I as well assumed that my salesman was being nice and set me up but when I got home and called to cancel my subscription on the car I traded in, I found out my year subscription on my new jeep was activated six months prior. A trip to the dealer fixed the issue. BTW, I'm still getting half off offers to renew my subscription for a car that I no longer own.

I've been doing this for years and can confirm that it works.

Too bad, so sad. They wouldn't give
you free service. The goal of business is
to MAKE MONEY. How much did Apple
make on the iPod?

Give it a few months and you'll receive notice in the mail that they want you back. Call and tell them you'll pay half and they'll most likely go for it. That's what I had to do with my most recent renewal.

How is half off the same as free service? And last I checked you don't have to pay a subscription for an Ipod.

You missed the whole point. Everybody Wants a "deal", or something for free.
Most customers try to beat a business down so they make little or NO money.
Before long there will be no satellite radio, dealerships or other things or places that people constantly bitch about.
BTW, it costs money to use iTunes to download music to an iPod the last
time I checked.

I agree- that's pretty pricey. I understand they are a business and trying to make money, but I honestly don't think they will survive charging that much- especially when so many people have an iphone or some other smart phone that can stream from Pandora and allow people to carry thousands of songs they have already purchased.

I will never give up my Sirius radio for a iPUD. Everyone I know that has an iPUD has 1000's and 1000's of songs the same as everyone else that owns one. Very good diversity with Sirius. imo

I pay for my Sirius. It's a good service that works great for me. I always get a signal whenever I am not in a tunnel and that is saying something living in the foothills of CO.

The stations are good, the variety is great, the quality is great and to me the price is right.

Like some of the others on here, you should pay full price if you like the the service. Help the biz rather than screw them over. Between licensing fees and the cost to launch and actually keep a satellite in space its pretty cheap.

I like the service and don't have a problem asking for a discount. Since I only drive around 7,000 miles a year, I don't think Sirius is worth paying full price for. If not for the discount, I'd rather do without. Sirius would rather have half of the money than none.

I completely understand what you're saying, but I'm looking out for #1. If I can get the same service for half the price, I'm gonna take advantage of that.

Same here. I don't think I'm taking advantage of them. I didn't ask for half price. They offered it to me after I wasn't willing to pay for anything else they offered me. I don't think they'd offer me something that isn't profitable for them.

The way I got mine cheaper was I didn't call them. I would assume if you call they think you want it so they are less inclined to offer a discount. I just let mine ride. The signal actually continued for more then a month after the free service and thats when they called me. Thats when the negotiations happened in my case and they offered me my deal. I would assume they think if you are will to let it expire then they will have to offer you something to stay.

After I traded in my last car and I cancelled service they called me back to see if I wanted it in my new car and I said it didn't have XM. They offered me a free radio to try and get me back.
