The bit rates on SAT are around 60kbs on the best channels. By comparison, a uncompressed CD has a bit rate of 320kbs, which is over 5 TIMES the data rate.

The proof is in the numbers, they don't lie. Satellite radio has POOR quality compared to uncompressed sources, even Mp3's BLOW away sat radio in quality.

Now, if only Jeep would have a better audio system. I ripped out every speaker (all 7), put in an amp and a LOC for 4-ohm speakers - what a difference. It's like what st1264 said below.
Uncompressed audio on a CD is actually 1411.2kB/s. I transcode all my Mp3 to 320kBs when I rip CDs.

These bands only have so much stuff before you hear it over and over... I listened to the PJ channel for a little while, gets boring after a while. There is a couple stations that I listened to for a little while, but nothing I'd pay for.

I counted, I have 17 FM channels I like... for free. Then there's MP3's, discs, etc.

It sucks that they got rid of Playboy radio. The morning show was hilarious.

I agree it can get repetitive but I'm in sales and in car all day. I luv Sat radio for the variety. I listen to sport talk a lot but luv the fact I can listen to whole Pearl Jam concerts at various time during the day or have my fav artist pop up on the screen and bounce to that chanel. And if your smart you get a good deal from Sirius and its not that expensive.
I always pay around $30 for 6 months.

I broke down today and renewed after 4 months of piles and piles of renwal notices.

They gave me a hard time for not paying by credit card and advised they had to charge me a one time $2.00 processing fee. So it comes out to $30.00 for 6 mos

That's what the garbage or recycling box is for...

$30 total for 6 months or $30/month? Still, I won't renew as I don't like the sound quality or the content.

They wanted my credit card "to ensure no gap in service" = "at the end of 6 months we will charge your credit card $120.00 for a one renewal"

No way XM!! I'll pay the $2.00 and send you a $30.00 check every 6 months

Maybe a Sirius receiver? Love my Octane and Lithium but it sounds SO bad!?!?!
It's the Pearl Jam and Linkin Park.

Pearl Jam has their own channel and it's still every third song on lithium :/

Unless they were ripped horribly, the MP3s. Even bad mp3s are ~2x the quality.

I don't have a problem sound quality. As loud as my Jeep is down the highway, anything would loose sound quality. Quit whining. It's a Jeep, not a concert.

Just picked up new Sport and turned Sirius on for first time - I wasn't expecting much and it didn't deliver.

Another brilliant observation by the most basic of vehicle owners.

Like I said before, some don't know what "good sound" is. They are happy with a transistor radio, so Sirius sounds like heaven to them.

You'd think we'd have a better stereo system and headlights (some are happy with the headlights too) for a $30k Jeep... but Sirius just sounds bad (compressed), so I don't listen to it.

And now you know why their stock price sucks.
I had sirius for years and started to add up what I wasted my money on.
Drop outs.... all the time. Bad sound quality..... all the time. Boring programming..... all the time. I shut it off and spend $35.00 a year on Pandora, (paying gets rid of commercials). I build my own stations and listen to what I want to. I stream via bluetooth in the Jeep, in the motorhome, through my BOSE Sound link and even through my HDTV if I want.
Sirius is a serious waste of money

I pay for Spotify, which is great, but I have a Verizon phone and therefore have a data limit. If I'm not careful, I'll easily go over my limit for the month about 2.5 weeks into it just from streaming music. I need to figure out a way to get rid of this stupid limit. Never had one til I got a new number in 2011.

I gave my Jeep a pat on the hood for getting yet another compliment about his color (Gecko). At the Post Office a lady stopped her car, rolled down the window of her station wagon and asked if it was a custom color. I and Rubi smiled. "No, but it's no longer available," I said. "Love your Jeep," she replied.

There is no better way to get a higher quality of sound when its all 16 - 48kbps, channel dependent. Most are around 32kbps. Sad but true.

I wasn't impressed with it at all and had already decided I wasn't going to keep it. Well my subscription ran out in march and was supposed to have until June. Well it kinda pissed me off even though I rarely listened to it and only for CNN (which I could plug the phone in for). I finally after two weeks of it irritating me I called Sirius. Apparently the dealer activated it for people to hear because my jeep was on the inside show room. So they just activate free year all over again. Still don't listen to it because it sounds like sh1t.

Thank you. I am a basic vehicle owner. If I wanted fancy music, I'd buy a Beemer.

I quit Sirius XM a long time ago. It's "free" Pandora for me now. I did the $3.00 a month Pandora but when renew time came around I went back to the free version, a commercial here and there is ok with me and with the shape my ears are in I can't hear the difference at 65 mph.

I called Sirius, had them reset the signal, etc, etc but the sound is truly unlistenable. I think it is even more noticeable with the Jeep's tweeters at ear level so the high frequency lack of fidelity coming right at you. It reminds me of listening to AM station far away where the station drifts in and out of reception.
