Except in my opinion, am actually sounds better. That or I'm just used to it and its mono broadcast

I drove a Ford rental car all week and the good news is... Sirius sounds just as bad, if not worse, in the Ford than it does in my JK. Glad it's not a Jeep stereo thing.

I can't listen to regular radio after having Sirius and the thing that sucks about an iPod is that there is no variety/surprise. Its all music you put there.

I have one Sirius/XM radio account and a separate tuner. I just have cradles wired into the receivers and move the Sirius tuner to whatever I'm driving (listen to it 90% in work truck). My work truck is noisy, my Jeep is noisy, if I can just hear Opie & Anthony, Boneyard and Liquid Metal, I'm happy. I originally subscribed for Stern, but can't stand him anymore.

I assume the problem is with the head unit. I've been in other vehicles with Sirius and the sound is fine. I have noticed that the tinny sound also happens when listening to music via bluetooth. When I plug my iphone in thru the usb port it sounds fine but when I use the bluetooth is sounds like sh** Must be something with the wireless receiver in the head unit.

I think what needs to be pointed out to people is that the different inputs yield different result. That is what surprised me. I think in mass people have said that these Jeep JK radios sucked but I never knew that it was worlds of difference between like FM radio and Sirius.

I installed a JL Audio amp this week and was trying to tune it. I would tune it and it would sound great, 30 minutes later it sounded muffled and crappy. Finally figured out it was Sirius specifically.

Reception is fine around DC, but I found the sound "tinny" also. I'm no audiophile, but FM on the 430N/Alpine system is pretty good. When I play from an iPhone, it is very good. Makes sense what ahsumtoy mentions above - if the data rate is low, lots of sound would be lost, just like standard versus HD tv.

Anyone tried streaming Sirius through their phone via Bluetooth and comparing it to what is on direct satellite to the stock radio?
I may take a couple of cold beers out to the Jeep this weekend and spend an hour making the comparison.

I've tried this and I think streaming from the sirius app sounds much better. It's just more convenient through the HU and when using the app, if you lose signal you're out of luck.

It sounds like crap because of the large amount of channels they have along with the available bandwidth. They have to compress the crap out of the signal to broadcast so many channels which makes it sound like shit. I had XM when it first came out and sounded way better than today. Since the XM/Sirius merger the amount of channels went up and the quality went down.

I'm interested how it sounds streaming though the phone, might have to check that out.

I finally canceled SiriusXM on both my Jeeps ($410/year for two vehicles is simply ridiculous) and discovered the quality and clarity of sound in the stereo systems I have now that I listen to FM and HDD.

Chrysler is making HD Radio standard on newer vehicles.

I love SiriusXM. I live in a remote area with scant am/fm coverage. The satellite radio saves the day. I don't live off the grid, but I can see the edge of it from here!

The sound is terrible but after many years of training people to accept lower sound quality for increase quantity (through MP3s and Data Compression) all they have to do is add a Subwoofer to convince people the sound is good. Compared to a CD (don't even bring up Analog LPS ) I have lost entire instruments, background singers, and notes when I listened to a familiar song on Sirius. I don't expect it to perform like a good Vinyl LP but I simply cant listen to Sirius because it sounds so bad. I just wait till I get home and fire up my Rega Turntable or Marantz CD player. Data Compression is horrible unless no one ever showed you the difference.

Never had one til I got a new number in 2011.
If you have premium you can download the songs to a playlist so you won't be using data. You do have to pay the 10.99 per month. Also the sound quality is better for the premium version. It's worth it to me.

It isn't really the Jeep's fault. I have the portable player and it sounds terrible too. Very flat sound.

Sounds bad in my Kia, Jeep and my International Terrastar

Bluetooth streaming on my 430n is horrid, Sirius is as bad direct play in unit. I have google music and use the Aux cord, this makes it sound awesome.
Google music started a few months back for $14.99 you can link 5 accounts for it. If you have limited data you can download play list or music you want on a Wifi connection and play it that way.

Even my wife noticed the poor sound quality, it has a "Tinny" sound. I won't renew my subscription when it expires in the future.

It must be SiriusXM's transmissions bouncing off all that trash orbiting earth.

I'm waiting on my Willys order to arrive but I had a chance a while back to borrow my friends 13' Rubi with Sirius and the sound was terrible. I have been an XM subscriber since 2003 and the sound has been amazing. If this is true for my upcoming JK (with Alpine) order I am considering an external XM receiver into my aux connector.

Cheers
Ken

when you have to drive an hour and a half to get to a place with more than 3000 people even the highly compressed, low bit rate Sirius is great (not much choice over the air here). Personally, (and I may be in the minority but I don't care) I wish Sirius would use the money they pay HS and do anything else with it to improve their product, heck just burning it in a fire pit and taking him off the air would work Ha Ha

Seriously now, I am lucky enough to have a 6 disc factory radio. It will also read DVDs with music on them so I put high bit rate music on DVDs and keep 6 of them stuffed in my dash. I do listen to Sirius, but mostly for Sports, some Comedy and News (don't have these options over the air here). These are channels that the sound quality isn't really an issue so I have kept my subscription.

Have had my 2015 Willys for exactly one year. Hated the sound of the Sirius from the start. Has a compressed sound. I just let the free subscription expire this week. It would have to be free for me to keep it on this vehicle.

I mostly listen to classic rock anyway, and the songs sound pretty much like when I first heard them on the crappy radio I had in my old Firebird in high school. So I'm good.

I ditched Sirius years ago. I stream Pandora through a bluetooth device connected to the AUX jack. Between that and the 464 albums I have on my ipod, I find plenty to listen to. Pandora for $3.99 a month commercial free is a bargain compared Sirius and it doesn't drop out under every overpass.

Serious question...why does anyone use Sirius for music when the likes of Spotify, Google Play Music, and Apple Music exist? $10/month for any of the three gives you almost every song out there and you can choose exactly what you want to listen to instead of some super repetitive 'stations'. I was an XM subscriber back in the early aughts; but, when I hear someone using Sirius nowadays, I imagine them also using AOL :-).

1. Cost of data streaming in Canada is high - no unlimited plans, thus Sirius is cheaper.

2. Phone 3G/LTE is not available everywhere.

3. AM/FM not available everywhere; needing constant searching for available stations when travelling.
