Good timing with this topic. I'm going to wait for my trial to expire now and wait for a better deal. I tried to have my sirius radio put on with my 3 other xm radios. They gave me the cross platform excuse. I'm not completely buying into that. By not merging their billing accounts they are able to squeeze a little more out of us. They've already merged enough to have cross platform channels.

cancel

I am thinking of calling to cancel both accounts, when my current 6 month free trial is up on the Toyota. See what happens...

I could actually live without it for awhile, since my wife does not listen to it, when she drives without me in her Jeep...

It's called good old American free enterprise competition that makes what we have the very best for the price and the reason most, except for the world's idiots, envy the US and all it has to offer.
Don't worry if they can't make a profit, they'll soon figure out how or be gone and someone else with superior management and leadership skills will take their place, offering more for less and still will be able to show a profit.
Most don't go for or pay the first asking price, presented to them by their Jeep salesman either and I haven't seen too many of these dealers suffering for lack of profit. In fact, it's almost impossible to get the best price on a used one, without walking out, going home and then waiting on their phone call.

I really enjoy a few of the channels and hate FM radio with all the chatting and commercials.

1. Has anyone tried to negotiate a lower rate?

2. If it cancels, what options are people going with? I really hate the idea of using an MP3 player or Smartphone and have to push buttons on it while I'm driving, or do the steering wheel controls still work (I doubt they do except for volume)?

3. I guess I could rip a large MP3 CD and use it, changing it out every so often.

4. Are there promotional codes or coupons available to get the subscription at a reduced rate?

When I purchased my 2012 wrangler arctic two weeks ago, the dealership said to argue down the price until hell freezes over. He told me that one of his customers talked the price down to less than $40.00 dollars for one year, and locked in at that price. (NO, I didn't miss a decimal point!)

My one year would not activate so they credited my account for the price. So I still have the free year.

That's exactly what happened to me so I renewed. I had just music on the previous subscription and now I have every channel. More for less is better!

This thread is a year old. What is the current strategy to get a lower rate than $187.70?

Call them an ask for current specials. The $25 for 6 months is still going on, and they also have a 12 month for +/- $95.

I'm probably going to let mine expire and stick with Pandora One on my phone for $4 per month.

The best way is to either ignore them for awhile or to call them and tell them that you're going to ignore them until they do make you an offer that you can't refuse, like has just been said.

We're still, and currently paying just $4.17 per month for 6 months of Sirius Select. We just let it run out every six months, and make no contact with them. Quickly and invariably, they come back and offer us the same low deal by email. When you renew, just make doubly sure to tell them before you accept their offer and pay, not to automatically renew your subscription. Because, it will automatically renew at their regular ridiculously high price if you don't. That's what they're counting on.

There's probably better ways to save a buck on Sirius, but this method has been working for us. Good Luck!

You said that you like the service, right?
So I guess you paid MSRP for your Jeep? Paid asking price for your house?

The city I'm living in, houses got bid up $10K to $50K of asking price is very common because there is more demand than supply.
Good that it's not the case in buying cars.

Anyway, just received a letter of offer $30 for 6 months after my "mandatory" subscription has expired a week ago. No interest to renew anyway.

A CSR did call me before my subscription ran out, but it sounded like she's at a party, I simply told her I changed to a radio that doesn't have satellite (which is sort of true, my new radio needs another box to do satellite)

I let my subscription lapse for about 2 months, and continued to get mail from Sirius with lower and lower offers. I really didn't want to spend the extra money, but when it got down to $30ish for 6 months, why not? Love it on long road trips down to NC.

Man Sirius has really been letting me down over the past few years. I was one of the first subscribers when they came out. Sound quality was great - CD quality, they played lots of deep cuts from albums - stuff you never hear on normal radio - even on the mainstream channels.

Here in the last 3-4 years though the audio has gone from CD quality to something like listening to the radio over the phone through a sock. The only thing I can think of is that they have been so desperate to add more programming and channels that they have maxed out their available bandwidth and started compressing the audio streams more and more to compensate.

Basically the audio is muddled and full of compression artifacts and it makes me sad. It used to be such a wonderful thing but now it just pisses me off. I have maintained my sirius subscription for 13 years now through 6 vehicles and countless radios and I do so today only through loyalty, but I am seriously considering cancelling the whole deal.

So what I am saying is, If it were 10 years ago then yeah 10 bucks a month/100 year is a great price. But with today's quality issues I don't think its worth even half that. Just my .02

Just so you all know, I let mine expire about 3 months ago. Now getting offers for 25$ for 6 months, but guess what. There are now a number of channels that are offered for free! Don't know how long this will last, but I now have over 100 channels and am not paying. And no, this is not a fluke. I know two other people who had the same thing happen. Channels were gone and are now back. You don't get full channel selection, but there are a lot of good ones there.

I seem to remember last week hearing that there's a "free channel" promo going on right now, to get new/past subscribers to sign up.

Yeah, must be the case. I will enjoy it while it lasts and then let it go again. I use spotify in my Jeep through my phone which has much better sound quality and selection, so I will never sign up again for Sirius, but it is nice to have it for free. :-)

You can buy 32GB USB drives super cheap (I even bought a 128GB stick for $50). Load it up with all your music, plug it in the center console and all your music is with you.

I bought a used 2000 Sport a year ago and it had the subscription already paid for a while but it finally gave out or at least the service was cut off. I figured they would find me but not so or at least not yet.Any suggestions how to approach the possibility of starting service back up?Anybody else had this happen? Thanks
PS. I mostly just used it to listen to good old 50's 60's Carolina beach music--Anybody else know that good music?
