Small block Chevy LS1 in 09 Wrangler Sahara

I love my 09 Sahara Unlimited except for the motor. I put a lot of over the road miles on it this past summer and while it handled everything alright it really isn't as much fun on the road as off. I'm thinking of working with a local guy who can put a Chevy LS1 motor and trans in it. If anyone out here in the Forum has done this they know it's not cheap and I know I'll never get my money out of it--but life is short. I know I can't be the first guy that wants to swap-out the 3.8l stock motor; can anyone who has done this or similar conversion pass on some wisdom?

Thanks,
Jim (outwest)

making the LSx computer work properly with the JK computer is going to be an absolute nightmare. considering how much of the JK is run by the computer, I really dont think you are going to be able to get around using the JK computer.

like badfish said go with the Hemi swap, its a drop in, dang near bolt in swap. and assure you it will make your jeep much more enjoyable on the road and off

Thanks guys. Guess I'll stick with the stock power-train for now. Maybe more mods for the 3.8 wimp will come along. And, after all Obama said the Federal Government will stand behind the lifetime warranty. He wouldn't flip-flop on his promise would he?

Well, the RIPP supercharger is about as good as it's gonna get in terms of power mods. Not sure what more you're looking for...
Also, the LS1 was not a CANBUS-controlled setup. The 3.8 in the JK/LK is. You'd need an engine/transmission setup that's wired for CANBUS control- Mark W.

if you do everything yourself you can get all the parts you need for about $10k but if you get someone to install it its going to cost twice that...

The kit alone is $5-6K, depending on options. Plus, you have to source the engine and transmission. Then do all the work. Yeah- it gets spendy- Mark W.

hay my gramma had one of those amc hummers, like arnolds, and that thing was a beast out in the dessert. it was way to wide to drive on the streets but the thing was unstoppable in the dirt. and it carried 8 with the extra seat option for the back that was sweet. but yea new hummers suck!

The H1 was a sweet ride, despite being MASSIVE (we have a lot of 1.5 or single-lane backroads around here), and sucking down gas like crazy- my former employer had one for towing, and it would literally do 1 gallon per mile towing up a hill- sexy
That thing would go anywhere, though- Mark W.
