Small Damage on Door

Hey Guys!

I am looking to get my door fixed. I am not sure when I did this but I am guessing that it happened when I took my doors off this past weekend. Has anyone else had this type of damage occur when they removed the doors? I did not notice it until the other day so I am not 100% sure that was the cause but I cannot think of anything else. The damage is not very noticeable but since there is also a crack in the paint I figured I better have it repaired.

How much is something this small going to cost?
Dealership or independent bodywork shop?
Other repair options or ideas?

I am open to suggestions! Thanks for the help!

It's going to cost more than you think. Make sure you tell the Body Shop that it is a quote for repair that you are paying NOT the insurance company.
Yes. The prices are different and if they say otherwise thank them and leave.

I'm guessing (can't really see in pics that well) but SWAG is $450-$600.
Sheet metal work and paint (color&clear) not cheap.

Depending on market, PDR (paintless dent repair) which is not an option here can run upwards of $200+. This is a full blown repair by what it looks like, granted not a large area but the process is the same.

e.
Both of these are accurate as well. If you don't luck out at $300 it may be as high as RubiSS is thinking.

But some shops will work a deal. Especially if they are slow and the booth is empty.

By the looks of it, you may have rotated the door when the hinge was not fully seated as you were placing them back in.

Bring it to your dealer body shop and give them sad puppy eyes. Maybe they'll work it for a good deal. If lucky they can bend back the metal without cracking the paint. Then they can just scuff and buff the clear coat. If they need to touch up/reapply some clear-coat. My guess is $150 for that and $50 bucks to straighten it. You'll likely always see some evidence of it, but only YOU will notice it. Likewise, over time a used jeep with well and oft-removed doors has a lot of evidence of such behavior.

You can also get the American Outlaw Door pin guides

as well as some new liners
Quadratec® 55014 6103 Delrin® Replacement Door Hinge Bushings for 07-17 Jeep® Wrangler JK 4 Door | Quadratec

Both of which will aid you in being able to minimize "mistakes" by making the process as smooth as possible.

You can also add a cowl cover such as:

There are many other styles including metal ones which can be painted to match or accent, but require screws and drilling.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the help. Any suggestions on a timeline for completion? I realize the jeep is going to have some dings and dents. I really just don't want this to turn into a bigger problem. Currently, my lowest quote is $550.00 and he cannot get my vehicle in for about a month.

Yep, be prepared to get soaked. Even the tiniest bit of body work beyond pulling out door dings costs an arm, a leg and a kidney.

And body shops work at their own pace, they are a special kind of business... always on the "island time". A month wait time sounds about right. When they do get to it, they'll muck around with it for anywhere between 3 days and a week.

I went to get a final estimate and had an interesting response from the auto body repair man. He suggested that I chip away the paint that was lifted from the jeep and try and find the spot where the paint stops separating. He said that I can just get some touch-up paint from the dealership or online and touch up the paint on the corner of the door instead of paying the 550 dollars to strip and paint the entire door and front panel. He said that with the metallic color of gray, the paint job from the body shop would be a lot of work and may never look exactly right.

1. where do I order the exact color of paint to do the touch-up?
2. Was this repair man correct? could it be that simple if I do not care about the corner being bent?
3. Anyone ever tried something like this?

Thanks again!

Use your paint code (or VIN) from your door sticker. Nothing to lose by trying a DIY. IF it doesn't turn out ok you've lost nothing.
You can heat the metal and use a rubber mallet to ease the bend out as well.
Thin metal these days is both a blessing and a curse.
Take your time, go slow.

I have repainted damaged parts (rearview mirrors) myself using Dupli-Color paint. Get the paint code for your Jeep (on door sticker?) and then google it. I found the Dupli-Color paint to be perfect match to factory. They also sell the clear coat. Whole thing should cost <$30.
