Small Mod (New) Pics

After seeing alot of antennas on other jeeps and looking online for a new antenna that didnt look like i was trying to contact mars i did some more research and did not find what i was looking for at all. so i decided to cut up my factory antenna and make a new one. i had done this in the past with many different vehicles but i wasnt sure if the jeep would be a bit different since it had the sat radio and nav in it. once i found out the only thing running on the antenna was the radio i decided to go forward and make my new antenna.

the new antenna is 14" and i powder coated it black. the jeeps antenna was abit easier then others i have done in the past. i am sure pretty much anybody could do this with basic hand tools, that is of course without the powder coating unless you have the tools to do so. but a can af black spray paint would work just as well if cleaned well, sprayed good and allowed to set for awhile to dry properly. anyhow here are some pictures to show how well it blends into my vehicle.

Oh yea and in case anybody was wondering. i still get radio signal just as good as it was stock. i would how ever give a warning that anything less then 14" will start to mess with your signal. i tested this in a dead zone we have here on Fort meade wich has many dead zones. any smaller then 14" would start to show signs of signal loss.

one other thing i forgot to mention is the antenna looks exactly like it was stock with the little ball on top and everything. just powder coated black and 14" high.... when i measured the antenna it was 14" from the base, so just the shaft to the top of the ball.

I actually considered tearing mine off since I get crappy radio reception. Maybe I'll shorten mine, I like that look.....

i hated the factory antenna from day one. the extremely long silver antenna just looked like crap onmy jeep. but i also wanted to be able to listen to the radio when i wanted to. i guess i could just painted it but i thought it looked much cleaner this way and still got the same reception as it did stock.

its a very easy thing to do. only thing is getting the ball off the end of the antenna without messing it up or loosing it. i used vise grips and a small hammer to tap it off.
