small simple mod ideas

My dad's birthday is coming up and I want to get him a simple mod. He likes jeeps but doesnt really off road. He got one because it can get through anything. He already has windshield mounted hellas. Any ideas on simple mods for him? Thanks.

My only mods thus far have been a Tuffy under-seat concealed carry security box (~$120) and the Rallylights headlight kit (~$260 with the Philips X-treme+80 bulbs).

I am wondering if the "fog light mod" that was common on TJs can be done on the JK - essentially defeating a pin on a relay to allow your fog lights to stay on when the brights are on.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, if you need fogs, you don't need brights, blah, blah, blah. It's about control. I don't like nannies.

Getting a short antenna is a great mod.

Do the shorties effect any reception? I really like that look but was worried that it would interfere. Let me know, I might need to get one!

I have one. If you are in the city no problem. If you are in the boonies forget about it. I mainly listen to satellite or mp3's so no problem.

Does that mess up reception though? Opps sorry. Repeat question. I'm in the woods. Wouldn't work well go me.

The short antenna made no difference to me. It is the same as the stock one was.

Get hte metal one from Shorty Antenna Source and you won't have any reception issues. It's much better than the rubber ones.

x2 on the metal short antenna from "shorty antenna source." I'm sure somebody could explain why it's the wrong length for radio frequencies and therefore has some theoretically lower reception blah blah blah, but all I know is I get the same stations I got before and noticed no difference. On top of that, it doesn't whip around on the trails.

Did they put a relay on the 2012s?

Get a light bar or bull bar for the stock bumper, will add to that "go through anything" look

The turn signal mod is cheap and easy.
Grab handles.
Extinguisher.
Wash it and polish it with some Turtlewax Ice.
Good bulbs in the headlights.
Good metal license plate frame for the front.
Throw away the dealer license plate frame from the back. Jeep designed the holder for a plate, not a plate frame.
If your looking to spend a little more, replace the headlights with a kit from rallylights.com. Huge improvement.

get some decals from pixeldecals.com.
Some visor decals to cover up the warnings, or get DADS JEEP, rubicon style for the hood. Dads love that kinda stuff.

A shorter antenna will lessen reception in all cases and in all antennas unless you have a base loaded antenna "coil" Just my two cents. I have a ham radio hobby. :o) The smaller antenna will be less likely to catch on stuff though.

i have also noticed for fm reception, anything less than 13 inches reception is reduced drastically

-Mopar black plastic door sill guards... protects against Reef sandals w/ bottle opener/paint chipper bottoms. ($50)

-Shorty Antenna Source "8 and/or "14 black metal antennas... slide oem/extra antenna inside roll bar cushion as backup. ($20)

-Grab handles... prefer the DIY cobra knot paracord myself. ($5-10)

-Bosch Icon "16 Wipers... they work well in crap conditions. ($18/ea)

-Rain X 1/2 and 1/2 Bug/Tar remover/Deicer fluid... spend more time in the Jeep than outside cleaning it. ($3-4)
