How about nobody laugh because many warned about this product and just help me out since i'm old and wrecked. The drivers side went on in 15 minutes, now about 90 minutes later, made up of swearing and grinding, I can only get three bolts on the other side. The last bolt nearest the rear wheel has no room for the nut. I do not want to remove the slider as I may not get lucky and get it back on again. I do not want to weld the bolt to the slider. How can you get the bolt out since it appears to be pressed in from above? Any suggestions? By the way my wife did 90% of the installation and I did the lifting and grinding. Guys, always marry an engineer.
Have the same sliders with the same problem. Here is what i did to get them on. This is best done with two people. You want to set the side bar so that it will hang there if your by yourself. You need to start the theading on the back bolt nearest to the tire first. DO NOT TIGHTEN. Them move the the bolt closest to the tire on the front. You will need to force the front side up. And start the thread on the front. You will need to tighten both of the nuts down at the same time ( why i suggest two people ) once you get them all the way tight move to the inside nuts. After hours of struggling with it I figure all this out. I didnt have to grind anything to get it on. So hopefully it will go a little smoother for you.
If the boxed section was jigged wrong, nothing but a relief hole in the side will allow you to get the nut on. And that would weaken the mount...
Mine wouldn't go on either. I returned them to 4WheelParts and challenged them to mount them. If successful, I said I'd pay for the install.
They came out of the shop 10 minutes later with a brand new box of sliders and installed them for free.
That 4WP store in Marietta has great integrity; can't say a bad thing about them at all.
when i did mine the right side went on in about 20 minutes. drivers side took over an hour and a half plus the rear bolt broke off flush in the body. was not fun.
My suggestion to future installers would be to install the side that fits easily and drill out the other side and put in grade 8 bolts. Green-Machine and I both have 2010's and different sides worked correctly. What if Chrysler's jig is off?
oh you know that their jig is off. how many kJ's do you think they assembly before the put a tune on their jig 50-100k maybe. thats if they even do that.
I'm going to say the "jig" problem lies with the chinese factories the Smittybilt items are made in. Not to say all USA products are perfect, but to me the quality control is better and if you do have issues the customer service is at least in the USA! Deals are out there, you just have to look around. I got an or-fab rear bumper(usa) with shackles for $189(new takeoff). I had to pick it up but still a good deal. I also got a fabtech front bumper with shackles, brand new, for $359 shipped. I also got some olympic reversa rails for $160 shipped(new takeoffs) I have less into my 2 bumpers and rails than some people spend on 1 bumper Also all of the above parts went on the first time no mods neccessary.
