Snapped body mount bolt

Was installing some new rocker guards and we snapped the body mount bolt. Part of the bolt is still in there. Was wondering if anyone had any cheap and easy ways of extracting it without cutting any body/frame or using a torch.

Can you get a vice grip on it? If your rocker guards are still partially on and in the way maybe remove them so you can get a vice grip on it. Me personally don't try drilling a bolt out until the vice grip doesn't work and I break the bolt to a point I can't get ahold of it any longer.

Man that pisses me off just looking at it from here. Too many guys have had issues with these. Looks like you get to go buy yourself a screw extractor set. Make sure you wear eye protection too when drilling up. I'd start the hole with a punch and a brand new split point 1/8 inch bit too so you get it in the center and it doesn't walk on you. Some times you get lucky and the heat from the drill will loosen it. Oh yeah, soak it with some WD first too.

Looks like drill time and maybe try an Easyout. I'd spray it good with PB blaster and let it soak first

Well, you know how on the side panels of some websites you see those advertisements for "Try This One Weird Trick To....."? They do this at work, and I thought they were joking at first, but.... When they snap off a bolt or stud, they spray it (liberally) with an oil of some type, sometimes PB Blaster, sometimes a wintergreen oil, and sometimes AeroKroil or WD-40. I guess it's whatever they can get their hands on. Then, they take one of those engravers - you know, the buzzing kind with a point that you etch your name on your tools with - and then slowly buzz the tip counterclockwise around the edge of the broken off bolt or stud. I've seen it work with my own eyes. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't witnessed it myself. I usually see it happen on galled stainless connectors, but sometimes the carbon steel bolts on the steam side of the plant will twist off too.

The process DryCreek speaks of WORKS....... been doing it for over 30 years..... at home AND work....... but I would only trust KROIL to something of this importance....... if you go with one of the lightweights (PB WD, etc) may not get it out.....
