Snorkels!

I'm looking into getting a snorkel but I have KC windshield lights, and will be installing a 50in light bar this week. Will the snorkel still fit? Can I see some pics and get some opinions on the different kinds. Thanks for the help.

The RR unit doesn't fit with most 50" lightbars if mounted on poison spyder style mounts. It is also extremely restrictive IMHO. The AEV seems to be the one to get, and the route Im going with.

Not unless you use the low mount like my silver Jeep in the pic above

A bit off topic, but can anyone confirm if the AEV snorkel fits with a Gobi rack?

You won't have any issues with AEV and your KC windshield lights.

Different Angle shots of AEV snorkel and windshield lights to give you an idea of fitment.

My buddies JKU with AEV snorkel with Pre-filter and Gobi Rack.

Diff Breathers should be done as well as your Tranny & Transfer Case Breathers.

Ive been happy with my River Raider for the most part. The only real complaint that I have is how they change the flow through the stock airbox so that air flows down through the box instead of up through the box. If you seal up the airbox, it makes it somewhat susceptible to accumulating snow which melts and drips through the filter leaving a puddle of water just outside of the intake tube headed to the engine.

River raider with their full super well done breather kit.

What I have installed. No issues. Not even snow issues. Note, I have the 18" extension for that someday when it goes submarine mode. For now, this is working well. Lights and racks would fit. A hi lift on hood hinges might have to have the mechanism/base on the driver side..

Finished installing the Rugged Ridge snorkel kit in my 14 JKU. The install took about 8 hours (including dinner, and charging the battery on my Dremel). A very tight fit in all the parts with some extra adjustments (hammer and bending) needed.

I'm running the AEV with rigid braces for the duallys and the 50 inch bar, it fits perfect , HOWEVER < make sure you buy it from a reputable dealer or off quadratech there are a lot of fakes and those probably will not fit. if you run both diid brackets for the dually's or KC lights as well as the bar, you will need longer bolts which i found at home depot. good luck .

The rugged snorkel with the low Mount has got a hell of a section on it. Shoulder I worry about sand blowing it in while driving on the dunes ????

Hello everyone,

Apologies to hijack the thread, but I don't really want to start another thread on snorkels, and people in here seem to have a good knowledge....

I have a 2011 wrangler rubicon, and will be taking it on 4x4 days, and often this involves water, usually only 12-18 inches deep but sometimes more. I'm concerned about hydrolocking the engine so thought I'd get a snorkel, now it doesn't seem so straightforward! I on't know much about the mechanics of the car, so my first question is; if i get the snorkel but don't extend the breather hoses, am I still risking hydrolocking? If not, what is the purpose of extending the breathers? I don't plan to be cruising through deep water regularly, by the way.

Third question is anyone familiar with the Safari snorkel? I'm in South Africa and we don't seem to have access to the same parts as the USA. The description makes it sound pretty average, doesn't even mention traversing deep water

Help would be appreciated!

No you won't risk hydro locking if you don't extend your breathers. Your breathers are for the transmission, axles, and transfer case. As the fluid contracts or expands there needs to be a way to get air in and out if these drivetrain pieces so that pressure doesn't build up. That's what these breathers are for. Ideally you would extend the breathers tho. Water in an auto can cripple the transmission and not let it shift. Water in anything else won't cripple it but it isn't good for it. Extending the breathers are easy. It just takes a few pipe clamps, some tubing, and some connectors.

I don't have any personal experience with that snorkel but I've seen it in person and its a good design. It will be a little harder to install than the AEV because you'll have to route the air tube through the engine compartment to below the battery but you also don't have to cut an awkward hole in your hood. It's just 1 circle cutout that can be done with a hole saw

Can you post a pic of the snorkel & light bar mount? I have the AEV snorkel but couldn't find a 50" light bar mount that would work.

Thanks

of course, i used the rigid light bar mount , its a bit pricey but with the aev and the rigid duallys everything fits perfectly, you might just need to get longer bolts, mine cost 3 bucks for a handful :-) if you;d like i can send you some more up close pics tomorrow as well. and if you are buying a 50 inch led look up the cree bars on amazon, mine has been working flawlessly and lights up the whole place when on.

Thanks and it looks good!!

Close ups would be cool...I currently have a 45" mounted in front of the windshield wipers which I'm not a big fan of and since we're doing a group order from china for Cree LEDs I want to move up to the 50".

Thanks again
