No issues running my AEV ram air snorkel for the last 2.5yrs with water or snow getting into the air intake. The ram air for the AEV is designed to drain the rain water (see Diagram)

Down here in Florida there is a lot of jeeps with a snorkel and I never heard of anyone with a problem when it rains.

I thought the same thing. Asked my buddy who has been running a river raider for 2 years and says it will not/has not happened.

In the 70's we used to put Edelbrock water injection systems on our cars. We'd spray water mist (or ethanol) straight down the carb throat starting under acceleration.

Water mist helps increase the air density by cooling it.

Unless the neighborhood kids are prone to throwing water baloons at your snorkel as you pass by you should be fine.

It has been good, I put in a AFe drop-in filter and it runs better then the AirRaid CAI I had before the snorkel. The snorkel will draw in much cooler air then any CAI or the stock box under the hood! Also, it has been water tight!

If you do go with snorkel and plan on going deep in water...remember to extend all your breather lines (Diff's, Transfer Case, Tranny).

Also, it saved my Butt a few times on water/mud crossings!

My 2001 TJ had an ARB snorkel installed for the entire 3 years I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall, England. And I think it's well known how much rain they get over there. Plus I got to do crazy fun stuff like this:

I have had the River Raider for about 4 years now and we get some nasty rain is South Florida and I have never had a drop of water in my air box.

why don't they just make the snorkel air intake to where it fits the other way? That's how we do it on our ATV's and SidebySides. I'm gonna definitely get one when I get my Sahara. How do they affect the warranty? Which is better: The one where you have to cut a hole or the one where you don't have to cut a hole?

Anyone have a snorkel with the Airaid CAI? They advertise that you can use it with a snorkel... so, anyone?

Snorkel Options

The river raider options (there are 2 they sell) are at the bottom. There is also an ARB snorkel that isn't out for the 2012's (I don't think at least). There is also a "volant" snorkel that is overpriced and looks like a squid on the hood. So here is the copy paste job.

RUGGED RIDGE

EDITED FROM ORIGINAL POST: The RR with air ram will not let you lift up your wipers to clean them easily. That could be an issue if very muddy or if they ice up.

To be fair I'm not sure you really need the air ram. I think just having the small cowl location would take care of most of the splashes.

AEV
Other options to look at are the AEV( also sold as Mopar) being sold currently on Quadratec now for the 2012's. I'm pretty sure that this one is molded around the antenna. It's also beefier and allows more air flow then the previous version.
AEV Conversions 40306160AA - AEV Snorkel Kit with Ram Air for 07-12 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec
Looks like someone photoshoped this one pretty bad right were it goes into the air ram.

This is a picture with the pre-filter option(on the older version) that removes dust.

You can also put a donaldson TopSpin prefilter on and then you never need to clean the bowl. The downside is that it dumps crap down if your doorless (i hear) http://www.donaldson.com/en/engine/s...ary/000207.pdf

You can also get AEV china knock-off's from ebay for about half the price. From what I have read the plastic is not as sturdy, and I doubt they would work with the 2012's.

RIVER RAIDER makes a couple versions
JK Cast Snorkel
This doesn't allow you to keep the factory antenna location.

The River Raider is very neat. Looks like it is very stealth, and allows for removal of extender pipe when not needed.

Was just watching NBC New York news showing two Jeeps trying to haul a mini-van out of flood waters in Hoboken, NJ. Didn't see any snorkels.
