So...

I get home from work this afternoon, get settled in and walk out back of my garage. This is what I find...

First I was perplexed where the sand came from. A little closer inspection and I found the culprit. Surfboard wax.

"Son, that isn't a @##$#@# table. Keep your @#$%% surfboards off my top, or I will shove them up your @## sideways. And clean my @#$$#!@ top."

I don't think I was being harsh. Besides, he's a 23 yr old honorably discharged Army vet. I'm sure he's heard worse.

Tomorrow. Something about bright sunlight and towels. It's a surfer thing. My wife and kids surf. I watch. From a distance.

Does surfboard wax work the same as automotive wax?

If so, have him cover the rest of the top before he buffs it off.

No. It's very sticky. Like beeswax. Or a toilet wax ring. They coat the top of the board to give their feet grip. He swears he can get it off. Time will tell.

Well, when you make your top available like a workbench, what do you expect? Get the thing on a hoist up the air out of harm's way!

Any flat surface will immediately become a work bench. That's a law. You can't fight the law.

My company doesn't sell hardtops anymore, but when we did, we always fought damage in shipping. Finally, they made these big cardboard pyramids for the top of the boxes, in an effort to keep all the shippers and shops from using them as workbenches.

And somehow, I bet, the increased cost of the pyramid was more than offset by the reduced losses to "shipping damages".
