So I joined Tread Lightly ...

What next. I will be special ordering a JKU for my wife this weekend, I do understand that it takes 30 days for membership to take effect but it takes 8 weeks for delivery and I assume I wouldn't need the membership until the deal is finalized upon receipt of jeep.
Do I get some sort of membership number to give the dealer. What is the correct move to use this discount. Should I negotiate the best deal I can without mentioning it, then once I feel I got them as low as possible should I then tell them of my membership, or be up front with it.
They are very interested in buying my lease car, a 2013 Ford edge, and they want to sell it. I have my own financing through USAA all set up so they will not make money on that point.
I do understand they have to make money and I believe they will do great in buying me out of my lease and they are really hot for that deal. Is there something I should be aware of with a deal like that. Of course I will be requiring a letter of satisfaction from Ford when I turn the keys over.

I told my dealer up front that I was using an affiliate discount....others have not.

You might be able to work a better deal by geting the best price possible without the discount, then telling that you have it at the end and getting more....or maybe not.

You will eventually get a control number (you get 2 a year) that the dealer will want when you pick up the vehicle.

My dealer took an email conformation that I joined. When my number came I called my salesman and gave him the number.

I didn't mention the Affiliates pricing or my $500 golden ticket to my dealer. I ordered my Jeep and made my best deal. 33 days later when the Jeep came in, I went to take delivery and I took my control number from Tread Lightly and my golden ticket. They took an additional $1700 off my negotiated price. Best car deal I've ever made!

Oh yeah....I forogt about my golden ticket. I had my agreed upon price via email long before I ever step foot in the dealership. But I did take my golden ticket with me. I also made sure I my taxable amount was post golden ticket...a lot of people have trouble with that one. No need to get taxed on $500 that isn't there.

I got mine in less than 10 days and dealer gave me 2 weeks to deliver the certificate. There is a lot of flexibility make your dealer use it.

I joined , but didn't need it. It is good leverage though, just tell them that bidding starts at 1% under, remind them that there's plenty of Jeep dealerships near you.

As for the membership there's a 30 day waiting period, so theoretically you could join after you order a Wrangler. You only need the number when you pick it up/pay. I'd tell them that you're using tread lightly when you order, save any rebates/golden tickets for when you pay. You're going to sign a contract, something to the order of being responsible for any price increases between when you order and pick up. I had to leave a $1000 deposit.

Interestingly, my MSRP went up a few hundred dollars and they didn't charge me for it. Goodluck.
