So I took it on the tollway...

it was no fun. Have about 600 miles on the new jeep, loved every minute of it but had to hit the tollway the other day and drive like a maniac. Glad I don't do it often.

Just proved to us the new jeep is perfect, 99% of the time we are on back roads, he's a joy to drive through the country. One the way home from the stupid meeting, I took the back roads home and was a happy jeep lady once again. I suppose it isn't totally fair to say it is not a great vehicle for any expressway type of driving, only because I really detest driving in that rat race.

There's really no point to my thread, just sharing how much I love the new jeep. And here I was gonna get a truck!!! Glad I just went for it and took the chance that I'd enjoy this more.....can't imagine how much fun it will be come summer time. I know most of you are a bunch of serious off roaders and it's doubtful I'll ever be one-right now my offroading is on a quad or horse- but I wanted to share with anyone considering getting one just to drive, that if you enjoy the view around you, have some rough roads to drive or need to drive on drifted-over back roads all winter, those conditions become fun.

Yep, just about an hour west of Chicago, just east of Dekalb. Drove from Elgin to Rockford on 90, it was the first time I felt tire hum and felt a bit pushed around by the wind I guess, plus I discovered that over 65 mph, the mpg actually drops. Some cars are fun to drive fast, that's the one thing I don't think is fun in the jeep, hauling ass way above the speed limits. Maybe it's more me than the jeep, getting older idea of fun changes, driving like a maniac in traffic only brings me stress now, sports cars seem over rated to us now. LOL! There was a day in my dumb youth that it was fun, along with dodging cops but lately cops are everywhere and tickets and charges are alot worse than they were 20 years ago, so is the traffic.

I have the rubicon, I think it's due to the tires and lower gear rating (or however you explain it, I get how it works, just don't know the correct terminology! LOL)
I just plain hate driving on our tollways/expressways period too.....people are rude.
Just need to do what the old man does, sit in the right lane at 65 and relax! Chicago I avoid like the plague, hate driving in or around the city.

Small world, I spent a part of my childhood living in Zion. Haven't been back up that way in ages. It sure has changed but in this area, what hasn't overgrown?
Our shop/house here is now up for sale, we thought we moved to the country but ten years latter it just ain't real country anymore. We are moving about 100 miles west, I can't wait!

I don't like the highway in any vehicle period.

ya, especially these highways. you'll get used to the windy feeling in the jeep though. that's crazy, my zipcode is zion, i'm right next to it in beach park. i thought everyone on here was on a coast . i know what you mean about the country, and i avoid chicago like the plague as well.

I think the worst possible scenario would be a 30mhp+ wind on an icy road.

We got alot of practice with that this winter 4point. Yeah, that was no fun, got to drive home with a tornado nearby last August too....took a few beers and about an hour to quit shaking. Hubby still teases me.

Summer is around the corner....I think........

I am still amazed at how well my 07 unlimited handled in the ice and snow this Iowa winter. Put it in 4 wheel drive a couple of times just to see if there was any difference. 99% of the time 4WD was not needed and we had some really deep snow.

hell yeah we did.. we had snow couple times a month. Many departments ran out of salt for the roads...(which i'm glad btw)

this winter has been a mess... we have 60 - 70 degree weather and the next day it snows.. wtf.

summer does feel like its around the corner.

as for the highways.. i only hate my rig on Chicago's highways because they are full of potholes and stupid drivers .
