so why buy a jk?

any reasons. to get a jk over any other model jeep and any style jk like a rubicon or x.

Depends entirely on what you'd use it for. The JK is the "JEEP KING", at the moment, and is the latest model of Wranglers, following behind the YJ and TJ. It's got an entirely different look than the YJ & TJ Clan, however, it still holds the Jeep Wrangler styling and spirit.

It purely depends on whether you like the older style square-headlight Jeep, or the round headlight turn-signal-on-the-fender Jeep, or the new style totally rebuilt Jeep.

As for what models to choose from, the X, Sahara, or the Rubicon, AND..... whether you want a 2-Dr or 4-Dr to suit your needs, depends on what you expect of it.

The X/Sport is the basic Jeep Model, which can still do quite a bit of off-roading, and handle some pretty good trails. Not a Hard-Core-Rock-Crawler, mind you, but still able to keep it's head above water, and play in the mud with the other kids.

The Sahara, basically has the same functionality as the X/Sport, having the same suspension and axles, yet has a few cosmetic and tech upgrades as well.

The Rubicon... is KING of the Off-Road Jeeps! It is a Rock-Crawler, right out of the Box! All you need, is a key, tank of gas, and a Tow Strap to help pull others out of problem spots on the trail, and you're ready to roll.

In the end, it's all about what appeals to YOU! What YOU'RE looking for, what YOU'RE going to do with it, and where YOU plan on going... pavement, or off-road, or both. Remember, “The road is not our path…..it is our destiny, and we are its guide!”

is there any advantage of a 2 door or a 4 door. i like the rubicon the best if my wallet can afford the monthly payments.

I have both.. TJ (2000 sport trail rig) and a JK (sahara unlimited) and I like many things about each.. If you are thinking in terms of a daily driver, I would take the JK hands-down, but the TJ is by far the more superior trail rig.. yes, the TJ is built and is not an unlimited, but I will say that Jeep did an exceptional job with the design of the JK..

The JK is quiet and other than the fact that you have to drive the JK to discover where her power is, there really isn't a downside.... Besides gas mileage..

If you're dragging around some kids, a JK 4 door is hard to beat...if you want to run 37s, you can get there cheaper and easier with a JK...if you want something brand new that hasn't been mistreated by a previous owner, you're only choice is a JK.

However...TJ parts are plentiful...TJ sheet metal is more substantial...the 4.0 I6 is legendary...plus...with a TJ...you can spend your days talking smack about JK owners and pretending you're some kind of Old School Jeep Gangsta who's keeping it real...even if you've never owned a Willys, a CJ, or a YJ...that's probably the best part.

I've owned a variety of vehicles over the years from new Vettes to my Jeep which was a 71 CJ5 and I can honestly say of ALL the vehicles I have ever owned the different Jeeps that I have had were hands down the most FUN vehicles I have ever owned.

The creature comforts of the TJ's and JK's make them nearly as good on the road as a daily driver as they are off road. They have their quirks but IMO those quirks are easily overlooked when compared to their fun factor.

IMO my TJ was better built but my JK smokes my 2000TJ in the looks department.

UHHHHH Why not a JK?
As posted earlier the JK is the latest & greatest from Jeep.
Evolution happens everywhere and the JK is just another phase of Jeep developement.
i'm sure some people will say the JK is not the best but dollar for dollar and STOCK it is. I had a CJ-7 that was done up and it would out wheel many Rubicons, but as i said it was built up over 20yrs. You just can't go wrong with a JK!

I liked the straight 6 engine in my previous LJ(Unlimited TJ), more than my current LK(Unlimited JK). The pedal is electronic, or something along those lines, and is less touchy as the TJ.
If you carry around a lot of passengers quite often and/or need to carry a lot of stuff, I'd suggest the LK... the four doors makes it easier for everyone to get in and out of the Jeep ( it was a pain for me to move my seats every time I had to let someone in my Jeep because I could never seem to get my seat back to the way it was just before I moved it ha ha ha). Also, I can fit 4 ice chests in the back of my LK without folding the seats down... which is pretty impressive in my opinion.
My LK also handles a lot better on the road and which is good because it is my primary vehicle.
You also get more luxuries, power windows, Aux jack for MP3 players, electronic compass, temp, est. gas mileage, etc.

I'd say get the JK (or LK) and you'll either be happy or you won't. And if you are not happy, then "it's a Jeep thing, you won't understand".

1. Buy a JK.
2. Take pics and upload them here.
3. Go trail riding.
4. Take pics and upload them here.
5. Repeat 3 and for continuously.

i was going to get a tj because the price is not that bad at 14-19k. but then i saw the jk pull up next to me with 4 doors and i thought that is more useful so i can bring other ppl out on the trail with me and have fun. but the price is a killer at 21-27k. i have was told that the 07 have had some problems since it was the first year that they did alot of changes?

Uh........my TJ has full doors, hardtop and AC. (But no Willie anywhere near my sound system!!)

I make fun of JKs all the time. I can't stand the way they look and I'm more than just unimpressed with their power.

HOWEVER, I get humbled VERY quickly when I wheel in Denver with one of my best friends. He's got an '08 (or '09, I'm not exactly sure) Rubicon. He's done a mild lift to make tons of room for his 33's. He can ELECTRONICALLY disconnect his front swaybar (I have to crawl under my TJ to manually disconnect mine. Easy, but easier to just touch a button!!) He's got front and rear lockers that he can engage on the trail, and he can pick front or rear as opposed to the earlier Rubicons where if they were engaged, both axles were either locked or unlocked.

As it is, his rig is very mildly built, but can go anywhere my TJ can go, and it's got way more mods than his JK.

I'll get over my bias against the JK when the looks grow on me. I used to HATE the YJs, but I'm getting to the point where I'd like to have one to thrash on.

Mechanically, (except for the engine, and don't bother trying to sway me, I've driven 4 different JKs and hated the lack of power they ALL had) the JK has better overall offroad potential.

That being said, I have NO intentions of getting rid of my TJ to buy a JK. I wouldn't mind eventually getting a 2 door JK, but it'll have to be in ADDITION to my TJ instead of a REPLACEMENT. I love my TJ and I always will. Yes, I know it has some limitations that the Jeep engineers addressed with the JK, but there isn't ANYTHING that can't be replaced with much stronger components.

Everyone loves their Jeeps.......that's what makes us Jeep people!!

This is my first Jeep and I'm lovin it It's only an X but way cheaper than a rubi, in 4lo the ESP kicks in on slippery spots and it pulls right on through, had the L side pretty much hi centered but the electronics put the brakes on the hi side and allowed the lo side to pull jeep through.... all the while I was wondering what the squiggly looking light flashing meant

I have open diffs Fand R... not for much longer

I took a stock JK 4Dr X with the crappy stock Wrangler street tires up Silver Canyon Rd.. last half of the trail was 20deg incliine and with tight switchbacks.. X had no problem.. Did stop a few times along the way to move some rocks out of the way because I didn't want the tire to be punctured..

I'm sold on the JK, need a new vehicle, want a green Unlimited Rubicon. I have very limited access right now to the real world and all I can see is what is posted on the net. I'm not seeing green Unlimited Rubicons out there anywhere. Is it just to early to have them sitting on the lots or am I not able to see accurate inventories out there on the Jeep dealers websites? I'm not buying until Feb/March, is the only way to get one to order one or are they available?

I may be wrong but i believe green is no longer available or 2010.
I know for sure that the Sunburst Orange & Detonator Yellow are gone.
Rescue Green was discontinued last year, jeep Green not sure of availabilty.
I'm sure someone will tell you if I'm wrong.

Thanks. On the Jeep website, I think it changed from what was offered in 09 to what they're calling natural green on the 2010s. I'll go with black as a backup, that was the color of my last truck. I guess when you wash them quarterly looking dirty is a fact of life.

There are dirt roads, trails, and then there are TRAILS...
TRAILS need more clearance and lockers (or a winch).

I think you mean BLD. ESP is automatically disengaged in 4-lo. You may have a LSD. I do in my X.

No locker or lsd... yet aussie locker to come

Been meaning to hook it up to the scanner here at shop (30 year vet of the underhood wars) and see which module(s) do what in differing modes(4hi,4lo,etc) the electronics make it like a lsd by cycling the brakes during wheel spin

Now if I could get EFIlive to work on this critter I could really wake it up... ought to see what it does for a gm vehicle

The few reasons I bought a new JK over older jeeps is... 1) I never had a brand new car and wanted to be the original owner. New car smell, flawless, and all that good stuff.
2) I wanted all the latest additions and updates. 3) A Warranty.

I planned to buy a two door model, but after checking out the four door models at the last minute I decided on an Unlimited right then. Its a heck of alot easier to get in, out, and access the rear seating area. There is a TON more cargo space. I thought it was going to be harder to drive then the two door due to it being longer. But it seems about the same to manouver around.

The only thing I dont like about the JK is its slow acceleration. This is the first thing that hit me on the first test drive. I let my mom drive it and she made the comment, "This thing doesnt seem like it has any get up and go"! I thought my moms Nissan Xtrerra and my friends Lexus Hybrid SUV felt like turds until I drove my JK. Comparing it to my brothers 1998 Sierra I get to drive all the time, yes, the I6 feels more torquey down at lower speeds and in the lower rpms. But on the other hand the JK rides ALOT smoother. Especially over speed bumps. When you go over a speed bump in my brother Sahara it feels like your about to get thrown out the window it jerks you around so bad. In my JK it is alot less frustrating to see speed bumps. lol

As far as choosing which model JK. If your going to be a frequent off roader who wants to really, really, shine on the trails then get a Rubicon. Otherwise a Sahara or X would do just fine off road. My only regret is that I didnt get a Sahara model. Because I wanted the cool stereo with nav, audio system, and power windows/locks. I wanted to pay for my Jeep in full upfront and not be wrapped up in a car payment. The Saharas cost a good bit more just to get the few options I prefered to have I didnt feel it was worth it either.
