SoCal 10A owners.... mileage question (may apply to other regions that run ethanol)

Just curious what my fellow SoCal 10A owners are seeing regarding mileage...

Figured this deserved its own thread since I believe the mileage in Southern California differs from other regions that have less traffic and no corn or additives to keep the air clean in their gas. We are unique here in SoCal... Besides our funny gas, there is always traffic, always stop and go, our terrain varies from mountains to flatland....etc

Im about to hit 4k and I can't seem to get better than 15.5mpg no matter what blend I use. I find it hard to stay in "eco" here in LA.... unless you are in some heavy traffic or its 3am.

Trying to get some answers from other 10A and/or Rubi owners since we are all about the same weight...

So ill start...

13 JKUR auto, 3.73. 1350 miles.. Mixed in town 17.5 avg. so far. Freeway only depend's on speed. 55 to 65, 20+. 65+ 17 or less. i'll post up new numbers as the 35's go on next week and the gears later.

Doorless + Topless = Less Weight = Better Stop/Go MPG

Doorless + Topless = More Drag = Worse highway MPG

Midwest here. Flat as it gets and 15.9 is best I've averaged. Mixed country/city

13 -16 avg. city
17-19 avg. highway

I'm using Chevron 89 regular. Not sure about this motor. This morning, outside air was 88 degrees, the coolant was running 215-221 degrees. Yesterday afternoon, outside air was 100 degrees, the coolant was normal, running at 205 degrees.

I'm waiting for a CEL ...

Wife's JKUR 10A, auto, 3.73, with 2500 miles, averaging in city about 16.9 to 17.2 and 18.4 to 19.1 on high depending on speed (65-75) using 87 octane.

JKUR Flatlander with E10, auto, 4.10s here and getting about 16.6 over the last 5 fillups. HUGE drop from there if i have any of the panels off or doors off.

You guys putting higher octane in your rig are just wasting money. The octane rating is specified to avoid knocking based on your engine's compression. Higher values get you nothing.

Alot of the gas companies put extra cleaning stuff (so they say) in the higher octane, so there MAY be some benifit to that. But other then that, I believe you are correct.

Octane = Fuel's Abality to resist detonation (spark knock)

Now my Chevy, has higher compression, so that NEEDS the higher octane...

I am in southern Oregon, we have 10% Ethanol fuel.

4,500 miles
best tank 18.45
Average 16.61
2 door
3.73 gears

The compression ratio on the Pentastar is 10.2:1.

Anyways, the octane rating of 87 is specified to avoid knock. 89 and 91 will also not knock, but why pay more for the same performance?

I've never heard of any oil company claim that they have additional cleaning detergents between two different octanes before. I'd find it odd and suspicious if they did.

Also keep in mind, it is a government requirement for oil companies to include detergents. Any advertisement pushing that their gas has detergent is a null argument. ALL fuels have detergents.
