Soft Top

How has the soft top changed from 2010 to 2011? It says it is easier how?

The change was between 2009 and 2010.

In 2010, the soft tops are what we call "cable tops" - they use a spring and cable system above the doors. Before this, you need to latch a plastic tab into the door surrounds. With the cable system, it holds itself down above the doors. This makes folding back the sunroof much easier, and dropping the top is easier too.

They look identical, unless you get up really close to door surrounds or feel for the spring.

The 2011 top is the same as a 2010, with a couple minor changes. The rear window is larger, and there's a slightly larger tab by the tailgate bar. Very minor change.

Thank you very much. Can I switch my 2008 wrangler to the cable system? Do you know how much that would cost?

Yes. A lot.

It's a whole new top, and new door surrounds.

And, much as I love selling stuff to you and your friends, probably not worth it. Lots of us have lived with the plastic door tabs for years, and survived to tell the tale.

The tops are interchangeable: you can put a 2008 top on a 2011, and visa-versa. The door surrounds and all hardware need to go with the top.

You have two options for getting this style of top: a 2010/11 model from Jeep/Mopar; or a Supertop NX, which is our new factory style top.

You can NOT retrofit a cable into an older top. The cables are sewn in to a special pocket. The "rain gutters" on the top are different, and the door surrounds are different.

Geoff@bestop,

I have a 2010 JK 2 door hard top, and was given an OEM softop from a 2008 JK 2 door. The only items that I didn't get were the door surrounds. I was looking at the surrounds on Quadratec and they have surrounds for Sunrider and non-Sunrider tops. Not sure which ones to order, any help would be appreciated

Does your top frame have the hinges/elbows above the doors? If so get sunrider surrounds, if not, don't. Make sure you get surrounds for your year top.

Top frame is a straight tube all the way back to a gradual 90 bend. The sun rider is the top that folds back for a sun roof? Thanks for the info!

Yes, the Sunrider is the top that folds back for a big sunroof.
The difference on the door surrounds is a "sunrider pivot" (or some such name). It's basically a quick release "knuckle" where the sunroof option flips open. There's a hinge there that needs to be secured to the door surrounds.

I -think- you could use a sunrider surround for a non-sunrider top, but I'm not certain.

And InfernoGirl is correct: it's important to get the proper year for your top (don't match the Jeep year, match the top year).

Thanks for the info. I'll start looking for the non-sunrider 2008 surrounds for my top.
