When you take them down to go topless?! I usually take them down and roll them up really carefully, because they bend easily and you can def see it when you put it back up. Also, I store them in the back on top of each other, I put the back window first just get a good base going to set the other to windows on top. As for cleaning them, I clean them about once every month.

Not sure about your weather...When I am fairly sure I will not need windows I leave them at home laying flat.

Another member suggested pants hangars with the clips and hang in garage.

I bought some felt blanket like material, and a more tear resistant material, and made a window bag for all of the windows (including half door uppers) It is about 8 years old and doing really well. I think I have a total of like $50 bucks in it.

I found a commercial sewer to install a zipper around the outside and to sew the main seam where it all comes together.

This allows me to take the windows but still have them protected from scratches.

Good Luck!!

I use the Bestop Window Storage Duffle. It has sheets of felt that lay in between the windows to prevent them from scratching each other. I also like to wipe off any surface dirt with a wet towel before rolling them up. The Clover Patch Window Roll also looks good.

put the side windows behind the back seat and the back window just rolls up and when you fold the top back down. here is a video to show how to rear window should roll up and be strapped up when you fold the top down. fast forward to 1:24 to see what I'm talking about...

First time using my soft top

So is it bad to use the car wash soap/water on the soft top? I use turtle wax car wash on all my vehicles.

Also, when I take the top and remove the side windows on my JKU, where is the best place to store them? i can understand placing them behind the back seat in a 2dr because they'd be covered when the top comes down. but in the JKU, i'm afraid they'd fly away.

any JKU folks out there with recommendations? If I know the weather is nice, I'll just leave them at home, but in my case today, it was raining this morning but the rest of the day is sunny and 80 degrees so I want to be top down

Everybody does it differently, but this system is not how it should be done. It's alright to lay them flat on top of each other, or even roll them up ontop of each other, but there needs to be a divider in between the windows. When the glass is in direct contact with another soft windows glass and they bake in the sun, the heat and UV rays can end up distorting the glass in the place of contact, which is why it's better to have a layer in between the windows. Even a t shirt or something will do just fine to keep them off of one another.

As for the care of the glass, you can buff them out with Novus scratch remover products to remove scratches, and also wax the glass with a pure carnuba wax inside and out. This will keep the glass rejuvinated and new, as the waxing will take out and built up dirt/dust/grime that has built up. And don't take an orbital to the windows, use your hands and test the process first.

Caring for the top itself i personally use Fabric Guard 303 Aerospace protectant, it leaves the finish on the top looking great and it cleans it very well. Fabric guard Aero is pretty much the same stuff as the bestop cleaners.

Lastly, if you have the soft top up for winter (if you have snow) it's good to keep the zippers lubricated because the zippers corrode and plug up with salt frequently.

If you know your goign to be on a trail that yields lots of pin striping, i would remove the soft windows or invest in a shitty set for wheeling.

Hope this helps!

^^^This. If you want the windows with you, click on one of the links. I use the HOSS system (top link). Cut down a swimming pool noodle and roll the storage duffle up around it, so the windows won't sag or crease in the heat.

If I leave the windows @ home, I hang em up in my garage with some old photo clips from my darkroom days. Pants hangers will work fine, too.

To clean the soft top (other than windows) I use a soft scrub brush and Aerospace 303, which you can get from many True Value hardware stores, and most marine supply places.

for cleaning and keeping your plastic windows nice and fresh. Wash with soap and water, with a chamois or soft sponge. The use this..
Amazon.com: Meguiar's #10 and #17 Plastic Polish & Cleaner: Automotive

my YJ windows had fogged and glazed to a nice white haze you could not c through. Found the Meguiar's product which cleared them back to original and kept them that way until the untimely and unfortunate end.

The polish will take out most of the tiny blemishes you are sure to get. No matter how careful you are, the scratches will show up.
