I am very close to pulling the trigger and getting a white JK base -base Jeep, and I may have an option of getting one with the Premium Top. I need feedback from those who actually have experience with the standard and premium ones.
The Optional upgrade to premium is only $400. But the one they have with this also has Sirius radio for plus $195. So it will cost me almost $600.
So, my question is : Has anyone really compared and have experience between the two and should I get the premium. Why is it Premium? Better fit, zippers, quieter, etc???
In normal cases, the 600 would not make me flinch, but I am tight tight on this purchase and the dealer would have to transfer this vehicle from about 150 miles.
It's well worth the $400 which is just pennies per month if you are financing. Side by side, they are night and day different. When we were at the dealer ordering my wife's Wrangler, the question came up. We went out to the lot to compare the two. Her decision to get the premium took all of 2 seconds.
Premium 100%. My buddy didn't buy a premium and after riding in mine purchased a premium on Craigslist for $900. I've had both and when I bought mine I insisted on the premium. So $600 is worth it for the top and xm
I have the regular top. I recently saw a premium top and, strictly from an appearance standpoint, I liked it a LOT. The premium top was introduced the year I bought my Jeep. If I had seen one, I would have gone that way. I plan to buy Bestop's new Trektop Pro which has the premium fabric as soon as it is available.
There's a lot of good information in http://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/soft-top-help-563993.html. Specifically on page one or two there is a review I posted that was written by Nuke83, which compares the standard and Premium soft top and the TrekTop. It's an awesome write up. He actually owns all three tops, so you get a real world person's review, not just a marketing fluff piece.
That review was the inspiration for the soft top thread.
My Jeep came with standard top. I ruined it in a off road accident. I replaced it with the premium soft top. So glad I did. It is definitely much higher quality. It is quieter for sure. It is also holding up better in the elements as well. My Jeep doesn't see a lot of time in the garage. My old top didn't have the spring assist either. As far as looks go..... Premium top for sure!:thumb:
Great,... thanks all for the input!!
I suspected the Premium was the way to go, but your actual experience is so valuable...
Now,.. I just have to figure out how to change my name from TwoJeepFam to ThreeJeepFam ,... LOL
I got the standard top, didn't know about the premium top when i ordered him, but glad I got the standard, I prefer the look of the stabdard top and it looks to me like it would be more resilient. Just my opinion, ymmv.
All my other jeeps had the regular, my current JKU has the premium. There is nothing to compare. The premium looks better, cleans easily (even sap) and is quieter. I love it.
