Soft Top Height versus Hard Top Height

stupid question.....how much taller is the soft top than the hard top on a JKU?

long story short, we are moving from TN to OK in 4 months. next week, we are going back to OK to visit, which is where i have my soft top stored. i am wanting to switch the hard top out for the soft top while we are there. however, i have to make sure that my jeep with a soft top can fit in my work parking garage back in TN when we come back. if it is too tall with the softtop, we'll take our other vehicle on this trip and just switch out the tops when we move in 4 months. i am really wanting that soft top for spring though!

thanks in advance!!!

On the Jeep site it lists the soft top as 1" taller than the hard top on the JK. For some reason they don't give a soft top height for the JKU. 70.9 HT- 71.9 ST

not to be a wet blanket....but don't forget to take in account lift, tire size etc.....maybe ask for someone to post their ST height in a comparable set-up like yours?

Just for reference....went to local hospital (visiting friend) this past weekend in the '12 JK....parking garage has been there many years...no problem in the TJ with OME lift and 31's....felt really close to support beams in the JK just for fun stuck hand out and reached up...yup could feel the support. My JK came with the 31-32" tires on 17" wheels.

i've got about 3-4" of clearance right now in the parking garage with my hardtop. just went and measured. i think the soft top should clear.

yeah, i've thought about that, but as a daily driver with a fair bit of rain suspected this spring, it would be tough.

How did this work out for you? I have a parking garage issue also. The warning bar in my garage at home says 6'8" or 80". Jeep officially says the stock JK is 70.9 (hard top) and 71.9 (soft top) although I think my soft top is more like 73"-74" with the top bracer. My thoughts are to do the 3.25" lift (which is actually 2.5" lifted coil springs, and 0.75" coil spacers) with 33s and I think that'll be about 6" of total height gain. If I can't clear by half an inch, I think I can always remove the spacers.

DH,
Remember that the lift gain from tires is based on the radius (half the diameter), not the full 33 inches. So if you go from a 30" tire to a 33" tire, you only gain about 1.5".

Also, don't forget that if you choose to run around in the sunrider position for a bit, that adds another 3 or 4 inches. There's a garage we use frequently that allows us to fit with the soft top fully up or down, but not with it halfway back.

Seems like an excuse for you to all go out and spend money to instantly fix this issue.

Buy the best compressor you can find for the most $ possible, and air-down for the parking garage.

Done and done.
