Go to a different dealer. I had to do that with my Nissan Frontier. First dealer denied warranty coverage, second dealer covered it no questions asked.

The '09 header will fit fine. it is the 07/08 headers that have the footman loop in a different place. I have pics of the difference somewhere...

Thank you very much! Sorry for the incorrect info.

One of these days I will get these things straight!

I would really like to thank Star and the many contributors of this thread. Because of all of you, I tackled my soft top this afternoon. Because of this thread, I had no surprises and everything went together very smoothly. Oddly, the dual tops soft top for my 2012 JKU was never even opened by the previous owner. So, I wasn't sure how tight it was going to be because I didn't bother laying it out in the sun ahead of time as I didn't decide to do it until just before dinner. I received my 2pc Dirtydog sun screen on Thursday and installed it Friday and left my hard top off all weekend. It was a special weekend. I only had to unsnap the two straps to the front loops and left the rest of the screens installed. Here are a few pics of the sun screen and the soft top.

Thanks, Star! This thread was very useful. When I started the side windows, I reminded myself of the square U that Mark mentioned on page 1. It made total sense when I was installing them. Thanks for that, Mark! I watched a couple videos and saw the front clips being closed before anything else was attached in the back and knew I wasn't going to be doing that because of what was said in this thread. I didn't close the latches until the very end because I knew that this top had never been installed before and would be tight. I'm very happy that I finally got it installed along with the Dirtydog sun screen. I'm all set for the rest of the season.

We should get Chrysler to put an insert in the manual:

For instructions/help on installing your soft top go to wranglerforum.com.

I'm afraid you just have to get lucky on craigslist or ebay.

Just to add, for anyone like myself, if you have the factory half doors with soft uppers ONLY (I don't have full doors, don't like them on a Jeep), Bestop doesn't have matching upper soft half door skins for their premium twill soft top. Only material available is the factory vinyl style, other than the Rugged Ridge, which is also vinyl style. I can't believe that Bestop has not made soft uppers for JK's, since they have been in production for 7 years. Every other model of Wrangler has many door options for tops, but not the JK.

Can you use a different type of screw so I don't have to pay 6 bucks a piece for something that is hidden away under the bar padding anyways? I would assume you could use a different screw, I guess my question is more has anybody used a different one/can point me in the correct direction?
your metal fender screws fit.. odd but they do..

Hondo's post that was quoted just above reminded me that I thought I was missing the screws for the brackets that mount to the roll bars. Sure enough, they were already in the roll bars behind the velcro flaps.

Kinda of topic with the soft tops, is it ok to go through a automated car wash with the soft top? The complex I live in doesn't allow us to wash our cars at our parking spots so it's difficult to get a good wash. I wouldn't think it would harm the soft top but I don't know. Feedback would be awesome, thanks!

If I have an OEM soft top with the hardware, what do I need to install an aftermarket soft top? I've found no concrete answer about this.

Do I need to remove the hardware and slip the soft top onto the hardware and THEN install the hardware? Or is there some way to slip the top onto the frame without removing the frame?

All of the YouTube videos I have seen are people installing soft tops that came with frames because they used to have a hard top.

Just look for the installation instructions for the one you plan on buying. I got this off of quadratec's site for their version of a top replacement. Looks like it's done just the way you want to do it.

Thanks for the link. I'm buying a different top but its OEM specification so I can't imagine the PDF you linked is much different.

I'm guessing the process will take a while...

Oh, and one last question. I've actually found good deals on used soft tops in good condition in my area. Will a 2011 soft top fit a 2007?

Post 1 of this thread:

I’ve collected some information about the different top manufacturers and found posts throughout the forum to try and answer different questions and give you tips on installing your tops all in one place. If you have a question, comment or tip about soft tops, please feel free to add it here. This is by no means an exhaustive list. But I’m hoping it can grow to be THE place where everyone can go to find answers to all their soft top questions. Similar to the MEGA Front Bumper sticky we have.

Here we go!

Some important quick facts:

So after the dealer did a rigged-job fixing my soft top- it had to go back in for head replacement- so hardly drove it. Over the 4th I went to take the top off- and discovered the bar, just behind the Sunrider hinge, is snapped in two. The sleeve had covered it. No idea if they did it or if it just snapped randomly immediately after their service- but either way I am pissed. We were headed to the mountains for the weekend and they were having flash thunderstorms. Had no idea if the top would stay on for a long duration- so I had to turn back around and go home. Between that and the head replacement that did NOT fix my issues, the re-flash screwing with my shifting and this I am pretty fed up with Chrysler.

Now that's funny. Left a message at the dealer yesterday; no response. Going on the premise that the guy was off.....

Curious about something. On my OEM soft top that came in the dual tops for my 2012 JKU, on the joint that sits at the back of the window surround, it's covered in a nylon pouch/pocket that seems to have snaps but they don't seem to want to undo. I didn't try very hard as the top seems to sit properly. Does anyone know if these should be removed? Is there any chance that I described it well enough?
