Quick question

[QUOTE=ZGKiwi;27315522]What am I doing wrong here?
Can't get the top of the windows to stay flush with doors. Seems there's nothing to hold them tight to the plastic pieces except the rubber of the door.

Attachment 3240842

Attachment 3240850[/QUOTE

Is this a new top? 2 or 4 door? I have the NX twill for my JKU. It takes some "working in" almost like a baseball glove. Make sure everything is almost completely unzipped. Work with it a bit, and it will come very easy. Any more questions, and I would be happy to work with yo to solve it.

The "front sides" of each window should have a "tab" that you have to "fold" into an indentation behind each door.

That little tab should tuck into the door surround and actually gave the rear of the Jeep

So in a brief moment of stupidity I discovered that soft top in sunrider mode does not fit in work garage

Snapped off the little round plastic tab that clicks into the door surround.

Looks like that plastic assembly just screws on to the bow arm but so far I'm having no luck identifying that part number.

Wondering if anyone knows of a more detailed part diagram availability than this

Jeep Wrangler JK Soft Top Hardware Parts 4 Door | Quadratec

Starting to look like I might have to order an entire set of both front side bow arms (part #2 in link above) just to get passenger side plastic piece.

I've researched everything I can, and it appears that the only difference between the Supertop NX and the Mopar OEM is the Spring assist? And from looking at the install guides, spring assist is only for the 4 Door?

So on a 2 Door there is no difference between the Mopar OEM top and the Supertop NX? I'm looking to replace my Trektop NX with an option that's easier to go full convertible on the go. The New Trektop NX Glide looks cool but I'm still not sure there's an easy way to roll up those side windows on the go (looks like they are still molded/rigid in the back) and I'm not a fan of the cargo/headroom space I lose in the rear with the fastback on the regular Trektop NX.

So zero difference between 2 Door Mopar OEM and Supertop NX (no spring assist either)? Just want to be sure I'm not missing anything, $500 less MSRP for the bestop version regular or twill is a significant savings

Supertop NX specific questions

I have a few specific questions for the Bestop Supertop NX. I plan to get one of either the Supertop NX or Trekrop NX for my 14 JKU to use in the summer since I only have a hardtop. The problem is I really like both of them. Either way, I'm planning on getting the Black twill option. I have a few questions about the Supertop NX that might help sway my decision:

-Some pictures I've seen it looks like there are two straps that allow you to roll up the rear window instead of removing it completely. Is this true? Does the top come with the straps? If so, do you need to remove the tailgate bar to roll it up, or can you roll it up with the tailgate bar attached to the window?

-Assuming the rear window roll up is an option - can the whole top be put all the way down with the rear window rolled up?

-What do most people do with the windows when they are removed from the top? I've seen a few window storage roll up bags. Does the rear window fit in these (assuming I'm not able to put the top back with it rolled up)?

-When using the sunrider feature, does it fold back far enough that the rear seating row is completely open air?

-I imagine myself often running this top with the sunrider open and rear window rolled up/removed with the door windows down as quick open air option on my way home from work. Has anyone used this setup? How did you like it?

For more confusion, check out the Trektop NX Glide coming out soon. You may like the fully folding option too

Yeah, I've seen that one, but i'm guessing that will be a little outside my budget unfortunately. 4wd.com has the Supertop NX on sale right now and even that's stretching my budget a little bit. Any input on the questions I had? Thanks!

The only actual experience I have with any soft top is my wife's OEM soft top. I was about to order the Trektop NX when I heard about the Glide. I liked the look of the Trektop NX and the sun-rider portioned seems larger than the OEM top. The only negative that I read with the Trektop NX was that it took about 15 minutes to remove it to go completely topless.
Hope it helps

Completely remove? Yep, 15" is about right. To remove just the top/windows but leave the mounting hardware? <5".

Can roll up the back window with the tailgate bar attached. I did this yesterday. The "straps" are actually elastic bands that you just put around the rolled up window & they snap to the top. They were included in my Supertop NX Twill. Note, with the bar, it adds some weight, and may stretch the bands.

I guess you could put the top down with the window rolled up, have never tried it. When I put the top all the way down, I put all 3 windows in the Storage Duffle https://www.amazon.com/Bestop-42810-.../dp/B001892VAE - Very happy with the Storage Duffle, as I used to keep beach towels for the windows.

When in the Sunrider position, the back seat (JKU) is partially open (enough), but not completely.

I ran like this yesterday on a short trip. Very easy.

Very happy with this top. Even more happy that it fit on both my 2013 JKU Sahara, and now on my 2017 JKU RHR.

Thanks for the info! I just ordered the Supertop NX in twill last night. Can't wait to use it this spring/summer!

If it comes like mine, you'll have to assemble it. Just make sure it is warm enough and you set it out in the sun beforehand.

Take your time and read/reread the instructions if you have any questions.

It took a friend and myself about an hour+ to assemble.

Don't forget patience! New tops can be a pain, so if it just gets to be too much, just walk away for a minute and take your breath. Once it's on, keep it parked in the sun to help it stretch out. This will help when you want to pull it back within the next few days if you get some good weather.

Soft Top Tension Cable

Hello Everyone,

My wife has a 2014 JKU and we brought the soft top used. Not exactly sure what type of top it is. It has a wire running through it from front to back that connects to a spring. It seems as though it tightens the top once connected to the front latches. The cable broke from the spring before taking off for winter. I looked on Quadratec and noticed they have a replacement tension cable and cover. My question is how hard is this to change? Do I need anything else?

This thread was the only thing that saved me while putting the top on the first time!!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Inexpensive upgrade for rolled up rear soft top vinyl window

You will note that the elastic strips that snap on to hold your 'rolled up'
rear window aren't able to stop the window from drooping downward.
American Outlaw Jeep Parts offers an inexpensive easy fix. Their two
strips contain velcro and allow you to snugly position the rolled up window
panel to rest flush in a higher position than the OEM ones, not allowing the
window to 'sag' into view as the OEM ones do. You simply unsnap the OEM
ones and snap in the American Outlaw ones.
Also - I have found that the 'corded' zipper pulls on my rear soft top window
tend to 'pop' open if I apply added pressure when the zipper is sometimes
opened or closed. This company 'Zipper Mend' has metal pulls that are
easily installed into the zipper's plastic slider opening. Once you press them
into a closed position, simply use your pliers to squeeze the bottom locking
section and zip up and down easily to your heart's content.

How hard is it to take the frame out of a OEM soft top? I tore the zipper at the end of the last soft top season. I put the hardtop back on and haven't touched the soft top since. The upholstery shop will fix it but I have to take the frame out.

Looks like that plastic assembly just screws on to the bow arm but so far I'm having no luck identifying that part number.

Jeep Wrangler JK Soft Top Hardware Parts 4 Door | Quadratec

Starting to look like I might have to order an entire set of both front side bow arms (part #2 in link above) just to get passenger side plastic piece.
I'm having a similar problem, I need just one of those screws that hold the plastic peice on. One worked its way loose last year and got lost. Going to pull all of them and add a little locktite to make sure they stay in place. Again, can't find that part or the screws listed anywhere on any site. I found these (https://www.quadratec.com/products/11132_9122.htm and https://www.quadratec.com/products/11132_9121.htm) on Quadratec, but it does not look like the same part as on my premium JKU soft top...

Installed mine yesterday. A second person would have been a huge help, but it's doable by yourself. The Premium top is very nice, and it's a huge improvement over the top on my old YJ.

Great information here. I was just looking for this info, bought a JKU with hardtop and now I'm going to buy a used soft top and needed to know all of the extra hardware that I need and make sure it is in the purchase or I will have to find it. The video of the install makes me feel confident that I can do this correctly the first time and quickly.

Rough Country soft top

I just purchased and installed the Spice soft top from Rough Country. I have been itching for a spice soft top and at $100 that deal couldn't be beat. I do have an issue though. I have a 2008 Jeep JKU X. To my understnading the 2007-2009 JKs don't use a cable to keep tension on the soft top. That feature is on the 2010-Present models. When removing my old soft top I found there were cables on the soft top and they ran through a channel. On the replacement top from Rough Country there are no channels to route the cable through and the directions mention there is no need for the cable on 2007-2009 models. After I finished installing the soft top I realised there is a HUGE gap bewteen the bottom of the soft top and the top of the door. When I called Rough Country they said this issue is because I have an other than factory cage on my Jeep. I asked him to clarify what he meant but all he kept saying was cage. I think he means soft top assembly? In any event, I'm thinking I could just exchange it for a 2010-Present top and that would solve my problem. Please weigh in with thoughts, experience, or questions. Thanks!!

Trektop NX

I just bought a Jeep, first time owner. I have a Trektop NX on order and I have seen enough and read enough to feel confident about installing it. I starting thinking about soft top removal when the cold weather comes back - I have a couple questions.
When removing the soft top, will I have to strip everything off including hardware? Or are there some soft top parts that can stay on the Jeep when I put the hard top back on?

Thanks
KJ

Your inclination is correct. The top you had on there is a 2010+ top. If you switch to the 2010+ version of the RC top you'll be good to go.
