soft-pros you can put it up and down in minutes and its with you where ever you go.
cons it louder from wind noise. also the heat comes thru.
hard-pros it is more quiet and stays cooler.
cons when you take off the rear portion you have to leave it somewhere.

I have a 2010 with a hard top and my buddy has an 07 with soft... he likes the soft top becuase he can put it up and down when he wants to but he says at best it is 85% waterproof, more noisy, and after a few years his windows are foggy and scuffed to all hell.

my hard top is absolutely amazing stays cooler, very quiet, and water tight... yes to take it off you have to leave the back section somewhere but if its good enough weather to do that the doors are coming off too and i have to leave them in the garage aswell

I had a soft top on my 2000 sahara, at the time i loved it, but the plastic windows looked pretty bad after a short amount of time. 12 years older, i decided to get the hard top. I like this one a bit more. Quiet, and cooler as stated before, and if i want the wind, i take the 2 panels off. Its a hard choice, it really depends on the person.

Buying new, get both or hard, soft tops are cheaper to buy after market. Shipping on a hard top after market would cost more then buying a soft top. However you might find a cl deal when the summer rolls around.
Its all personal preferance and having a place to store it helps too

If you are buying a JKU get the hard top for sure, you can find a complete soft top on CL for the JKU's all the time for between $300 & $500 with all the hardware.
