Soft Top problem

Hi all!

I have a 2011 unlimited and my soft top recently seems really loose. When I have to top on and a window open it wips around. It's also started to whistle while I drive, like air is getting in.

My old wranglers never had this issue so I just wanted to see if that's normal?

I have no leaks

Sounds like you don't have it on properly.

No, not normal. It should be very tight, like this.

Is there anything else odd about your installation? Fabric gathering in one place, or sagging? Are the sail panels in the back secure? Something isn't right.

Are you clasping the side latches above your doors? See this post.

You meant the latches that prevent it from sliding back? Yes.

It's weird. I had a 2007 unlimited and the material felt tighter a taught

When I open my window the whole top is blowing around. When the doors are closed it blows outward like a balloon

I'm sure I have it on properly. It was fine until a few days ago.

So what changed a few days ago?

Did somebody sit on it in the hot sun and stretch it out? Are your door surrounds mounted properly? The front three latches secured? Does anything about it look any different? Check all the points where the fabric anchors to the frame of the top.

Like I said, it certainly sounds as if something's wrong, though I'm not sure we're going to be able to identify it without more information.

Assuming it's not an installation problem, you should of course take it back to the dealer as a warranty issue. However, as they're often so clueless about soft tops, it'll often help a lot if you figure out what the problem actually is ahead of time.

Nothing has really changed. It has been extremely hot and it does look like it stretched. When I first got the jeep the top was so tight I could barely latch it, now it's the opposite.

The only thing in noticed Is the 4 points in the back where the top attached to the frame seem very lose, but screws are as tight as they will get. It may need to be that way?

Did you check the tension cable built into the top. I just had my driver's side one break last week. Caused a whistling and flapping of that side.

I seem to remember mine loosened up a bit after setting in the hot sun all day.
