Soft Top Question

Hey guys, I bought my jeep about a month and a half ago and the dealer finally sent me the soft top they forgot to put in the jeep. The side windows say Bestop on them.
The tops I've looked at on the bestop website don't really look like this one. Mine has the two latches on the front of it(like the freedom top has) whereas the tops on the website have the knobs that screw in on the front...is it possible they sent me the wtong one or do you think this is a different style not listed on the bestop website?

If it is stock, it will be the sunrider made by bestop. Same type of header latch as the hard top. It folds back to the sunrider position and can be Velcro'd there. If it is the 2010 model I understand they have added a feature that makes it easier to take down and put back up having to do with some type of cable? Have fun with your new top. If it was like mine, it came in a box and took me hours to set it up. Well worth the time though.

You should have also received a DVD that shows how to install it.

The stock ones have been sunriders. Nice feature except don't set it into that position without taking the back window out. Acts like a sea anchor.....RRRRRRRR.

If it is a stock top, it is a sunrider. You can probably use the instructions in the owner's manual and combine it with some of the on line instructions. Even if were a 2010 top they haven't changed it that much, you could probably install it with those directions.

I leave mine in. I don't even bother unzipping it you don't lie though. it's a real mother getting those front latches on with the rear connected. below 70 there's a 8" gap or so you have to muscle out

I'm probably f'ing it up by doing that

I spent 8 hours assembling mine from out of the factory box. It was not included as a dual top option but I purchased it in the sale of the jeep. My biggest trouble was trying to follow the directions to a T. I put the brackets on the roll bars on the wrong side of the jeep. I couldn't tell which bow went where in the directions. I finally just laid it out on the driveway and put it like it looks like it should go and I stopped wasting time looking at the directions. It went on quick after that. I've been using it for three years now and enjoy it.

It may be on the four door top, I've heard it mentioned. His top is an 08 though.

Ok, went and checked. On the clear part of the window just as you described, there is information stamped on there. Mine has the Chrysler pentastar logo and includes cleaning instructions, do not clean dry, use a wet cleaning cloth. It does not say bestop. So, you have an aftermarket top, not supplied by Mopar but by a third party parts supplier. For some people this makes a big difference. I wanted a stock one and purchased it new when the jeep was new right at the time of purchase and included it in the closing costs. It could be that the label is the ONLY difference. Geoff@bestop can probably shed some light on this. He is a regular user of this forum.

Bestop makes the OEM top. Here's something I've been doing that has made it much simpler to put the top up. I stand on the hitch and toss the top forward being careful to toss it gently and straight. With luck the side latches catch immediately. When they don't, I sit in the driver's seat and pull the header forward until they latch. Then I latch the header latches. After that I tuck in the sail panels. It's much easier to pull down the rear bow that it is to pull the whole thing forward to latch. This has drastically reduced my install time.

I'm pretty sure Bestop has to alter their hardware due to patent laws. Even tho' they make both tops. So your hardware with the Bestop will be slightly different from OEM. If it was to be included in your purchase, I'd take it back and tell them you want OEM... They saved about half the purchase price buying aftermarket..... And undoubtedly charged you for OEM...

He said that he bought it used. It is a 2008. I wonder why it wasn't in the jeep when he took delivery?

Notice on the advertisement on the linked page that it says extra durable on the Mopar top. I wonder if there is a difference in the thickness of the top material?
