Question Soft Top(s) - Thoughts?

I have the MOPAR soft top on my jeep now, i was wondering what you all recommend in this department.

Which one is the easiest/fastest to put up and down?
Which one has the best insulation (both hot/cold and noise reduction)?

Just gathering some ideas.

personally, I love factory tops. I was told they are actually Sunriders from Best Top. they're simple, fold down in 5 minutes, durable, and fold up in 10 minutes with practice. good, quality rag top IMO

Your Mopar top was made by Bestop and you can't beat it. I wouldn't run anything else.

Right on.

Is it really a sunrider? Shibby.

I do like the look of the back of trektops...

Where is the best place to buy a soft top for a 2010 Wrangler Unlimited?
Mine came with a hard top and I really want a soft top but paying $1500 at the dealer was out of the question a week after buying the jeep!

Thanks!

I just picked up a 2010 OEM soft top on ebay for 850. This guy had bought his with the dual tops, but only wanted a hard top. Worked out great for me, he never even opened it.

I saw one other on eBay as well. So it looms like you can pick one up.

There definitely isn't a lot of the 2010 tops on eBay, but I setup a search and had found one I liked within a week. Also, people are selling them on craigslist too, so keep your eye on that.

I found a girl that was selling one in VA for $1000, I got mine for cheaper, but if you can't find one, PM me for her info.

Also, make sure the top you buy is for a 2010. The 2007-2009 tops will fit, but the 2010 tops were re-designed with a new cable system which makes putting them up and down easier.

From what I understand, the 2007-2009 Soft Tops will fit each other just fine, and use the same Door Surrounds.

These Door Surrounds, for the above Model Years, are designed for the Soft Top Drip Rail Retainers (Plastic Pieces) to snap into, in order to get a good seal at the top of the Doors.

However, the 2010 Soft Top was redesigned with the Wire Cable, to ease putting the Soft Top Up/Soft Top Down. The Door Surrounds for the 2010 Models are therefore, different.

From what I've read, the 2007-2009 Soft Tops will fit the 2010's, but you'll need to buy the 2007-2009 Door Surrounds to make it work properly.

Same thing on the 2010 Soft Top. If you want to install it on a 2007-2009 Model, you'll need to buy the 2010 Door Surrounds.

Short Version..... You'll need the Same Year Door Surrounds, to match the Model Year of your Soft Top. e.g.... 2010 Top = 2010 Door Surrounds... 2007-2009 Top = 2007-2009 Door Surrounds.

EDITED TO ADD: Could someone with 2007-2009 Door Surrounds and 2010 Door Surrounds, post a pic of the Top of your Door Surrounds, with the Soft Top off of it? I'd like to see the difference in the two, just for comparison. This may help future Soft Top Switchers, in deciding what they need to purchase. Thanks!!!

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

That's good sh*t Blackbeard, thank you.

Is there enough of a difference in ease between the 07-09' and the 2010 to warrant an upgrade?

You're most Welcome!

I have an '09, and have not seen the 2010 Soft Top Cable function as of yet. I do understand, that it's an improvement over the Plastic Drip Rail Retainers. Whereas, you had to Snap/Unsnap the Plastic Drip Rail Retainers, which are sometimes forgotten in the Up/Down process of the Soft Top. The 2010 Cable System, alleviates the Plastic Drip Rail Retainer Step, making life easier for us Jeepers..... one step at a time!

Personally, since you already have a Factory Soft Top on yours, I'd just keep that one. It's a Factory Fit for your Jeep, and changing tops, MAY... invite the Leak Monster to pay you a visit.

For the cost of a new Soft Top, Dealer or Craigslist, it wouldn't be worth the Upgrade, IMHO. They'd both operate and protect exactly the same, in the end.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

Blackbeard is exactly correct with his information.

The only difference in the door surrounds is that on a 2010 the lip/indentation/pocket/gap (no idea what to call it) where you would normally tuck the soft top's plastic retainer strip is NOT there. Instead, a small piece of plastic was inserted into that indentation, which gives a nice flat "ledge" for the cable top to sit on.

It does mean that if you use a 2007-2009 top on 2010 door surrounds, you will not have a place to tuck in your top above the doors.

I can do pictures tomorrow, if someone at work has the cable top installed.

Ive heard that the 2010 soft top has less noise then previous soft tops when up do to the fact that they fit more snug because of the cable and the spring.

With that being said, I haven't personally witnessed this, but I thought it was good to know.
