Just had a viper alarm installed on my 2011 JK soft top after 3 break in's. the first time they cut the rear passenger side, the last two times they were nice enough to unzip the back window. I had to have two motion sensors installed, one in front under the dash and the other in the compartment in the back storage area. Now if someone gets with 12 inches or so of my jeep its chirps and if they dont move away it alarms fully. I wanted a deterent before they broke in not during. The stock alarm only sounds if the doors open and prevents someone from stealing the car (not pro's I'm sure!) and the alarm has features that will turn off the motion sensors. It was expensive because I could not install it my self and the extra sensor in the back $550.

For the peace of mind, I'd say $550 might be worth it.

What I think would be cool is if there were a system where if the motion sensor senses someone it not only sets off an alarm, but notifies you on your cell phone as well. Just in case you're too far to hear the alarm. That'd be something I hop on. Maybe I'll figure something out...

However, check out the monthly fees on these things - $30 a month to use it. If there was a one time expense I would go for it, but this is too much.
Ah crap. Didn't see that. Thanks. That makes sense because the LoJac they offer at the dealer was an extra $50 on the payment. Didn't put two and two together. I guess there isn't any such thing as a free (cheap) lunch!
Maybe hide a cell phone in the Jeep and use Find a Phone. LOL.

Viper alarms has a unit you need to buy to do just that for the Iphone, a bit pricey though. Not sure but might work with other smart phones without needing to buy anything, didn't really check that out...

Just got back from best buy. The viper 5901 is 500$. it is an alarm and remote start(even works on manual trans). To add everything you need including install and proximity sensor(with toggle switch to disable it when I don't want it) and all the other crap they need to install it the cost is 750.
If you want to have the viper smart start phone module it is another 200 and a yearly fee too(50 a year, 100 for 3

It is expensive but for 750 you get an alarm with a two way visual pager up to 1 or 2 miles, a remote start for a manual trans jeep, a motion sensor for when topless or soft top all with toggle switches to control it.

I still just leave my JKU unlocked and just leave nothing of value inside.

The alarm on my Jeep is pretty sensitive. I had everything off on my Jeep when I was in Va Beach. Alarm went off when someone tried to steal my floor mats.

Who the hell steals floor mats?

I want one of those alarms that tells the person they are too close and to move away, but, I can't remember what it was called or where to get it. Anyone know?

Proximity alarm. And if I recall, that would usually get you a key down the side every once in a while...

I have a hard top and a new soft top. I have been using the new soft top this summer to enjoy taking it off during the summer. Well, I left the doors unlocked most of the time and had stuff stolen out of it during the early morning hours about a year ago. I then began locking my doors from that point forward and trying to keep nothing in view. Got home last night about 12:30 and came back out to the Jeep at 6:30am to find my driver side back passenger window all cut out. My glove and console were locked, but they just pulled hard to get them open. Plastic is real secure you know. Oh well, the one thing I am having a hard time finding it a replacement side panel for the soft top. Do they sell these separately? I have taken everything out of the Jeep and will leave everything unlocked going forward including my doors even though I hate doing this. I live in a subdivision where this rarely happens, but my Jeep has been targeted twice and another Jeep almost identical to mine sitting on the side of the road has had nothing done to it. My Jeep was in the driveway pulled up to my garage with the outside lights on. Getting ready to put my hardtop back on for the winter, but it made me so sick to see the window cut out when it is just so easy to unzip. I guess it is a good thing I did not catch them. I think I would have shot and then asked questions and I am not normally like that. My temper went sky high when I seen the back window cut out and the love box and console left open. It looks as though several people recommend doing the same thing I am going to do. Leaving the doors unlocked and cleaning out everything in the Jeep seems to be the only thing left to do. Anyone got an idea for the best place to look for a replacement side panel?

Had both hard and soft tops. Get the tuffy under seat lock box. its secure and many thieves dont even look under the seat to begin with. This year i ran topless/doorless with spiderweb shade. Park smart and leave nothing visible. One of the previous posters locked his glove box and center counsel but as they said the bad guy just pulled hard and they broke open. I usually leave those unlocked and empty for that reason.
