Question soft top summer combo ????

I have a 2011 2 (full) door mojave edition wrangler. I have the 3 piece hard top and I am looking for something I can use in the summer and have the ability to throw up if the rain starts. I was looking at the summer combo - Bestop® Bikini, Duster & Windjammer Summer Combo in Black Diamond for 10-12 Jeep® Wrangler JK 2 Door with Factory Soft Top - Quadratec - however, I do not know if the cab curtain/windjammer keeps out rain. Does anyone have any experience with something similar that can tell me if it is fitting for me? If not I was looking at - Pavement Ends 51203-35 - Pavement Ends™ Replay Soft Top for 10-12 Jeep® Wrangler JK 2 Door - Quadratec - I would like this because I can take the windows out but it is a little more expensive. Making it tough for a poor college kid

All info added would be greatly appreciated. And if anyone has a recommendation for another type of top, please feel free to post it on here.
Thanks!

Honestly. I think your best bet is to find a like new/used top on CL or here in the classifieds.

I don't think the bikini tops are weather proof and the replay top requires hardware
I believe.

I picked up mine for $500 but see them lower.

Yes.... I looked at the link.

It's only the top. You need the factory hardware that comes on a soft top equipped jeep. I'm sure you can find one on here or CL within your budget.

Good luck

Yea you would need all the hardware. The door surrounds, attachment brackets, misc screws, etc. Anyways deff keep an eye out on craigslist, i got a nice full 2010 soft top wit all hardware included for 350 (I've seen them lower too). U could also just take everything off and buy a bestop trail cover for wen theres any rain ( u just cant drive wit it). I did this last summer but it sucked wen the weather forecast showed rain for the a week. A couple times i just threw on a poncho and drove like that haha but i dont recommend it.

hahahahah yeah I am going to be needing to drive. I looked at those covers and considered it. I will definitely keep a lookout on CL. For some odd reason I never even considered looking there.....brilliant me lol
Thanks for the tips

Had it one last summer. For the most part if you buy the correct door surrounds, it is fairly water proof. You can get a little water around the door surround and the windjammer. I stuffed and velcro a pool tube (actually used a water pipe insulation because it was black) which kept most out. Some hard rain if I hit the brake hard it would splash water in. Also it will leak just a little around the roll bars but not enough that it want dry quickly as soon as the sun comes out.

I really liked it for the most part but the water never bothered me. It was the windjammer pushing against the front seats. Got used to it but still the true down side.

Don't have the door surround on this one but the only one I found with a back view

I am rolling Safari top only, get a tarp for emergency situations while you are parked. I use a Vornado to dry it out at night if it gets wet, seems to be working well so far.

I kept the duster from my summer combo. It is perfect combo with the safari top if your caught in the rain. Well I just leave it on unless I need the back

I like your setup Rics. I am really digging the Safari top appearance, and it covers a majority of the cab. I am glad I was able to snafu a fix for the African beating drum. Made me really happy.

A quick search in my area found this http://longisland.craigslist.org/pts/2929861157.html.

Just a tip, dont listen to what models the top may or may not fit. Usually if all the hardware comes wit it then it will fit just fine.

Also, arent there certain sections of years that only work? like for example 02-08 or 10-12. Having a 2011, what is the earliest year y'all think that a top would fit on my 2011??

Rics.... Can you recline the seat back with that setup?

I bought/tried that combo on my TJ. It was awful. The seat had to be positioned almost straight up and it was very uncomfortable. I lost $$$ on the repackaging fee but i sent it back

I can recline as in driving with the seat back and slightly reclined in a comfortable position. But not reclined as in the passenger lays their seat all the way down. But then too it only takes a minute to take the duster off and put it back on. It definitely isn't as restricting as the windjammer makes it

Not sure if you can see how far the seat is reclined but it could go back even another notch

With the windjammer i mean.

That looks ok in that pic but would be uncomfortable with the windjammer yes/no?

Yes the windjammer would never let it go back that far. It makes your seat very restrictive. You get sort of used to it but never truly comfortable. Sort of like riding in an old pick-up with bench seats with less leg room lol. But at least if you had the safari top you could loosen the straps on the windjammer for more room. If your running the bikini, the windjammer has to be pulled in far enough so water cant run down the sound bar and into the windjammer. Wouldn't have that problem with the Safari top. Be nice if the Bikini didn't follow the lines of the sound bar and just ran straight across at it's farthermost end.

Same thing only different---I have a '12 JK, but have not purchased the combo for it.

I know from experience with the combo on my TJ even with wrap around jammer that it is going to get wet inside. My JK is too "new, good" whatever you want to call it. The softtop goes up and down easy enough that I don't want the combo for it ------YET!

I did have my jammer moded so window zips out on the TJ. Honestly if I lived in a "dryer" state would not run a jammer it restricts seat back recline a LOT!!

Yep....

I don't know how anybody can deal with that. I wasn't sure about the JK but not confirmed.

I would not recommend that set up 2 anybody

Well, the Trektop NX is the next cheapest. I like mine but it isn't perfect either. The only real problem with the NX is the windows are hard to store but on the plus side you can strip it to a Safari top which I like. 2 door NX is from $498 to upper $500 range depending in where you get it and the JKU version is in the upper $500 range to low $600. I got mine for $498 last year.

I do really like that safari look. Think I could get it anywhere used? or on craigslist? also, what are all of the parts you need for the Trektop?

You need 2 metal brackets that attach soft top to roll cage(assuming u dont have em already.. Sometimes people take them off the top, but usually they will come attached to the top.. If not u also need 4 tiny screws to attach soft top to metal brackets), 2 door surrounds, 4 screw things with big plastic heads (to attach door surrounds), 2 soft windows, rear soft window, back window bar, 2 rear clips to attach back window bar. I think thats all u need. As far as what year fits.. I thought it didnt matter as long as kit was complete. But u can always meet with the seller, try to put it all on and see if it fits prior to paying. Good luck

that is a looooot more stuff than I thought was needed! thanks for telling me all of the pieces. I think driving to the seller to try it out would be my best bet.

Also, for the tops other than the normal soft top, if I were to buy a top like the Trektop, is any drilling necessary?

No drilling is required. You will need a few basic tools. Also...if you go with e Treptop, make sure you get the Trektop NX and not the original Trektop. The original does not have the sunrider option. The Trektop NX just came out last year...doubt you will find a used one.
