Soft Top Sunrider option - am I supposed to look like a sailboat?

Am I supposed to look like a sailboat when riding down the street? I followed the directions when I folded the top, made it look like a "W," strapped it down, etc . . . what am I doing wrong?

The only way I have found to get the top folded back flat is to get into the back seat stick my head up through the roof , then you can pull and shap it nice and flat.

make since ?

errr, what they said...I had it that way for a while until one day I just figured "that couldn't be right" - then stuck my head through the top from the rear seat as jeepfun123 mentioned and starting working on folding it so the folds go to the rear and the front is completely flat with no excess material...just takes once or twice doing it right to get the hang of making it happen every time

What the others have said will fix your problem (all the folds pulled to the back so the material sits on the roof and not over passengers' heads).

Also, you are supposed to use the black velcro straps to strap the bows together.

Could you take a better pic of the folded top? I would really like to know if I'm doing it right...

You're doing it wrong. Ibee's picture above shows it done correctly.

You want to pull any and all of the extra fabric toward the rear of the vehicle and under the weight of the header. Your second photo clearly shows extra fabric laying both on top of your SpiderWebShade and ballooning up in front of the header. All of that fabric should be pulled under the header and toward the rear of the vehicle.

If you were to look at your jeep straight down from above, a properly folded sunrider would have no fabric in front of the header. All fabric should be behind the header after the top is folded.

In other words, once folded, the location of the header marks the spot where the top continues to provide coverage to the rear of the jeep. Even the rear seats will be exposed to the sun if the sunrider is folded back properly.

From the "How to use your Jeep Wrangler Soft Top" video, this is how the top should look when folded back into the Sunrider position:

You'll see that you have much of the material folded in the wrong direction.

This should help a bit.

^There it is. All of the extra material needs to be pulled rearward of the header. The header marks the spot where open air ends and the top begins. If you remember that, you'll do it right every time.

Nice! At last, I understand! Maybe I'm not really quick, but I always folded it wrong, and I could not figure out where I was doing it wrong!

Thank you very much!

I was having the same problem when I did mine
the first two times. I ended up having it hang
down and block the vision out my rear view mirror.
I then did same as others by getting into the rear
seat area and figuring what I was doing wrong.
What I got confused the first two times was that
they said to fold in a W pattern. I was including
the first portion of the top as part of the W which
is not right. What they meant was the second
portion is suppose to be folded in the W pattern.
When it is done like that it folds like the correct
pictures above. My next thing is to try it ALL the
way back.

Going all the way back will now be easier/possible. If you try to fold it back the way you had it originally, it gets caught on the roll bar and won't retract all the way.
