Question Soft Top Troubles

I am new here. Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything that answered my question.

My Jeep is a 2011 and had a freedom top on before I got it switched to a soft top. I have put the top down many times since getting it. I have two questions...

1) Why is it SO hard to put the top back up? The front latches are the very difficult. Is it normal for it to be very difficult?

2) I put the top down with the rear window rolled up but still on. I now have these indentations in the window. Will these smooth out as it warms up?

Thanks!

1) it'll keep getting easier every time
2) hmm maybe...you shouldn't leave it in when taking the top down just my $.02

welcome to wf!

When putting the top back up, I usually pull the rear section up as well to latch the front first then put the rear back down. if the back portion is down it will be hard to get the front latched on first, the clips on the roll bars should snap on and make it easier.

as for the rear window getting little indentations...I'm not sure, only had mine little over 2 weeks, it doesn't bother me, never thought about it, but I am sure once it sits in the sun for a while it may? idk.

hope that helps.

Just my .02, on my wifes jk, once I switched tops, I had to wait till it was sunny and warm to get the soft top stretched out enough to latch it comfortably, as far as the window, I always remove it. Good luck..

I never recommend leaving the rear window on and rolling it up. I will end up getting scratched and once it's scratched it's toast.

To put the top up, open your rear gate and stand in the back. Grasp the bows and lift them over the roll bar. Gently toss the header forward. With practice you should be able to catch it just right and get your sun rider latches to catch. Sit it the seat and pull the header forward and latch the header latches.

It takes the soft top a little while to stretch out. Helps if it's warm, too, or if the top can sit in the sun for a little while. It's normal for it to be stiff at first.

Probably creased the windows. Get something like this to store the windows in, and roll it up around a cut piece of swimming pool noodle so your plastic windows won't get messed up...

Is the top brand new? They stretch out more as they get used. I haven't had that problem, but I've heard about people parking the Jeep out in the sun to heat up the top and make it stretch more.

I've never rolled up the window and kept it on when I put the top down. But I did get a small indention in my back window when I rolled them all together and my dog decided to use them as a pillow. After about 2 days in the hot Texas sun, it smoothed out.

1. Try latching the front clips first before attaching the back portion and back zipper.

2. Yes the indents/fold marks usually smooth out after a day or so.

Thanks guys!

I had a long time Jeep owner tell me it's easier to leave the back window in when putting the top down so I did it. I'm now regretting it! Not sure if it is the difference in years or what but it works on hers and not mine! Since it's a plastic window I'm thinking (and hoping) it'll relax once it's in the sun on a warm day.

Just like Caso said, I bring my back up also. Unless I back into my drive that has a fairly good slope down to the street. That extra angle helps put the top up. In fact, it will just about slam into place.

I take extra care for my windows. I try not putting them anywhere they might get dented or scratched. I purchased my windows to get the tinted ones and they are not cheap.

I have the best luck partially lag hung the front clasp as well, once I get the back sail panels tucked in I go back to the clasps in front and clamp them down all of the way.

As mentioned plenty of sun will help!

Woohoo! Just an update... it was VERY humid here last night and today. The plastic relaxed and you can't even tell it had any wrinkles or indentations. I'm going to take the back window completely off next time the top goes down but at least it corrected itself!
