Soft top U Clips (above doors)

I have a 2012 2 door and the clips above the doors that hold the soft top down don't hold. It wouldn't be bad if it was just an issue with lowering and raising the top, but just undoing the sunrider and flipping it back causes the frame assembly to pop out of the U clips. Is this a defect? Is there any fix or aftermarket option to correct it? it is really a pain in the A$$ to close the sunrider and almost makes it not even worth the trouble.

Wondering if it is just my Jeep and should I take it back to the dealer...

Mine hold down perfectly. You're either installing/handling the top incorrectly, or something is wrong. If something is wrong, it's a warranty issue that I would definitely seek to have addressed.

I have a 2010 and sometimes I have to give mine a good wiggle to get the pin to seat fully in the clip. Give that a try. You'll be able to tell when it's fully seated.

if you undo the clips and its cold at all you may have some trouble getting them back in (even if you manage to latch the ones above the windshield) try unzipping the back windows and popping the soft top out of the channels by the tailgate and then clipping in above the doors, these clips should always be connected before the windshield clips, its kind of difficult until you get used to it.

Keep in mind if your just flipping back the sunrider you should not be disconnecting those clips. they are not really meant to be clipped in while the top is fully connected in the back.

The Clips in my TJ held much better (almost too well). These come undone on their own just from flipping back the SunRider...I may have to take it back to the dealer.

solutions I found

Actually, JEEP didn't exactly detail how to take top down/up... but their best instruction was to use their web site. Those clips need to be set before clipping to the windshield right after top pulled up... here's the JEEP link, Sunrider® Soft Top: Raise Top 2-Door Instructions | Jeep Wrangler the video was really helpful

also, this guy had some great ideas (like setting clips early!)
