Soft tops

M thinking about converting my hard top into a soft top for the summer. Do I need anything specific besides the soft top itself?

I found this helpful when I had the same question. 2 or 4 door will determine what you need. Video is for a 4 door.

It depends on which soft top you go with. The Trektop NX is one that comes with everything you need.

Come summer, I'll be in the same boat as you. Bestop's kits seem to be second to none. They manufacture the OEM tops.

As mentioned by KK2800, the Trektop NX (the one I'll be buying when summer rolls around) comes with everything you need. BUT... so does the Supertop NX kit. In fact, after browsing around Bestop's site - it looks like a majority of their JK kits come with everything hardware-wise.

Another vote for the Frameless NX...I have one on my TJ and when the JK needs a top to replace the factory ST it is what I will get.

Trektop NX and factory take-offs are the most popular options.

If you go with a factory take-off, you want one that has not been used, that way it is easier to account for everything. The top (still wrapped up, so it should have the bar inside), two boxes, and two brackets.

I have the trektop Nx. It is really tight, no frames to mess with and with the sides and back out, has a full safari top still in place. Then, the front half folds back easily.

I like it because I can go from a covered top to totally open in about 10 minutes.
I've dealt with the frames and folding tops for many, many years. Really enjoy not messing with the frames.

This is of course, just my opinion and there are many options. See what works best for you. Enjoy

This. They can be found $500-800ish varying on year and material type. Regular vs premium material.

I was thinking about getting the Trektop NX for my unlimited. How easy is it to go from closed to totally open? I notice most pics for it have it either as a bikini or as a sunrider. I was wondering if you could fold it totally down like a factory soft top. THX

There's no "all the way down" on the TrekTop unfortunately. Sunrider, Bikini, anywhere in between, but without a frame/bows there's nothing to fold down.

Down is off, but from what I've read it comes off relatively quickly (on the order of 10 minutes).

I don't know about storing it in the trunk, though - it'd be nice to be able to keep it handy and off. I'd imagine with the Sunrider frame it probably won't be portable.

Yeah, that is the one big drawback of the Trektop NX. You can't fold it all the way down and easily keep it with you.

I ordered a Trektop NX, but I never took it out of the box. I was able to trade it for a new OEM premium top.

I think the Trektop NX looks better because it does not have the frame/ridges....but I like being able to keep the OEM top with me.

I never fold my top all the way back anyway. I'm usually in Sunrider mode with the rear window unzipped and flopped inside the vehicle.

Thanks for the info! I guess for $600 brand new, it is still a pretty good option though. I just ordered a 4 door Wrangler with a hard top only. I am used to my 2 door with the soft top and if I have it down, it is all the way down. I rarely used the sunrider, but I guess with a 4 door I will use it more.
