Anyone have a good idea? When I come down from a steep incline, drop off a ledge, or begin to crawl up a steep hill/ rocks I catch my spare tire. Must have done it atleast 5 times over the course of the weekend. On the bright side this unbent my tailgate, as it was dented in before and catching the tire pulled it out. I need to run a spare so I can't just get rid of it. And on trips like this weekend I need the space in the back of the jeep for supplies. Any suggestions? Maybe a tire cage?

Get a roof rack and pop it on top. My friend made one himself and popped the spare on the roof and held it down with some straps. It was on a grand Cherokee though buy I've seen them on wranglers

You could add a rear stinger!

X2 I've seen a JKU running around here and he had rear stinger that came out from the rear bumper and went up and protected the spare pretty much exactly what you want to do.

I dont know where he got it, maybe you can buy them or maybe it as a custom job I dont know but if I see him around maybe I can ask him about it.

Rear stinger add a lot of weight where you don't want it and they look kinda goofy. I think poison spyder makes one. Plus it would make it a pia to get into your tailgate. Can you adjust the tire upward on the mount at all? Basically moving in up and in would be the best course.

Pretty sweet that it actually fixed something.

Only thing I can think of is the TF HD tire carrier. I've got one in my garage, but have yet to install it. A member named VIN posted a thread recently about his install, and IIRC, he said it really hugged his tire up against the tailgate.

I run 35's, and am kinda hoping it'll do that to mine. We'll see. But install for me is gonna have to wait awhile longer. Gotta go overseas Wednesday.

As far as a cage, OR-FAB's swing away tire carrier is similar to what the TF will do, but you gotta drill the Jeep to install it. Mounts to the hinges on your tailgate, though, so I'd think that even if you tagged earth with it, you might not do any actual tailgate damage.

A member here named Daniel_M runs the OR-FAB. Maybe shoot him a PM, if he doesn't show up in this thread.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ill have to look into that rear stinger idea. I have an adjustable tire carrier so I might move it up the the 37" tire slot to get it up higher and see if that helps. As for the or Fab carrier, I'm not sure it would help as all the pictures seem to show it sticking out pretty far which make it worse.
